I’m building my dream home but trolls house-shame me about it every day and say the rudest things | The Sun

A MUM has hit back at people house-shaming her as she attempts to build her dream home.

Courtney has been keeping people updated about the progress of her home makeover in videos on her TikTok page.

And in a recent clip, she showed the upstairs of the property – with bare floorboards everywhere – as she explained she was going to be getting carpet in her kids' room that day.

"This is all gonna be grey carpet later today," she said.

"I've told you, I'm gonna try and do it one month at a time because I can't afford to do all at once.

"So it's a step by step process.

"I've not even got a thing yet."

She added that when the carpet was done in the kids' room, she was going to get them new bedding and accessories, but said "that might even be after Christmas at this point, because, you know the way things are".

"Money and expenses," she continued.

"My mum's council do a pay weekly carpet, I think it’s like £1/2 per week," another said.

"It might be worth asking your local council."

"Oh I will ask them," Courtney replied.

"Never heard of that before – might be helpful!"

"You are doing great a home with lots of love," someone else commented.

"The house will get there – anyone worried about what you do and don’t have isn’t worth knowing."

"You'll get there babe, Rome wasn't built in a day," another said.

"You're doing amazing."

But not everyone was so complimentary, with one writing: "I would NOT let my kids in that house."

And in another video, Courtney admitted the comment had made her see red.

"I've moved in 6, 7 weeks ago," she said.

"Got a new floor, got a new bed for Alicia because she had a toddler bed before.

"So I've had to spend a lot of money."

Showing that she doesn't have curtains on one side of the kids' room, and a thin wire with a net curtain on the other, she said: "That is fine for my kids at the moment because it's bigger priorities like the flooring."

She is "hopefully" getting the flooring done on her stairs and hallway in the next few weeks.

"Because I have to do it certain… You know, we're not all made of money," she sighed.

"Let's be real."

Moving onto her own bedroom, she showed that she doesn't have any curtains.

But added: "Guess what? The majority of it's tidy.

"I don't have flooring yet.

"Don't have drawers cause the drawers I did have at the old flat was about to fall apart so obviously I wasn't gonna bring something that was about to break."

And people in the comments on that video were quick to praise Courtney, with one writing: "I don't think people realise how EXPENSIVE things are especially doing majority yourself!"

"Exactly my point, it’s not cheap for things," Courtney replied.

"House is clean and kids are fed and loved?" another commented.

"What’s the issue? My kids would be allowed! Ignore the trolls."
