Emmerdale fan favourite makes unexpected return a day after exiting show
Emmerdale: Gail gets a mystery phone call
Earlier this week fans were surprised to see Ryan Stocks (James Moore) pack his bags and leave the village of Emmerdale.
But just a day later he made an unexpected return in emotional scenes.
Ryan initially decided to leave the Dales after his secret son – whom Ryan and his partner Gail Loman (Rachael Gill-Davis) had given up for adoption over a decade ago – surprisingly came back into his life.
Just as viewers were coming to terms with the fact that Ryan was actually a father and that Gail had fallen pregnant when they first dated many years ago, the beloved character decided to take some time away to process things.
And, at the time, he didn’t reveal when he might return home.

Thankfully for fans of the character, he wasn’t away for too long and returned in the latest instalment of the ITV soap.
After being away for just one day, Gail was surprised but relieved to have him come back.
The pair were finally able to chat about why he decided to up and leave and why he was reluctant to meet their son.
While Gail apologised for keeping things from him – she had been in contact with Oscar’s adoptive mother, Sophie, after she found out that he was unwell and potentially needed a genetic stem cell transplant match – Ryan shared why he was afraid to meet Oscar properly for the first time.

He was worried that Oscar wouldn’t want to meet him and would ultimately be “disappointed” when he did.
During their open conversation, Gail asked Ryan what he meant by that and he quickly referred to a past comment that she had made when they gave Oscar up for adoption.
While she had mentioned that it would be difficult for them to raise a child, she had mentioned Ryan’s cerebral palsy as being one of those difficulties, with Ryan thinking that she would have had “to do everything on her own”.
He feared he was the reason that Gail had given their son up for adoption and him being of “no use to anyone” prompted him to leave.
Gail reassured Ryan that his medical condition was not the sole reason for their decision all those years ago.
Ryan admitted: “I’m scared he’ll hate me because I abandoned him, I gave him up. If I was him I would hate me.”
Despite this, he vowed to help Oscar in any way that he could, even if he may still need some more time to get his head around everything.
Viewers will need to tune in to see how the storyline progresses in upcoming episodes.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
