Full list of retailers closing 87 stores next week including Wilko and Costa – is your local disappearing? | The Sun

MAJOR high street chains are preparing to close some of their stores for good this week.

Businesses have come under huge pressure due to higher energy bills, increased labour costs and falling customer demand.

It comes as the number of firms falling into insolvency surged to the highest level for 14 years, according to the Insolvency Service.

More than 12,000 firms have entered insolvency so far this year, the data shows.

But not every retailer is shutting stores for good – some are expanding.

Aldi is set to open 20 new stores before the end of the year as part of its target to reach 1,500 branches across the UK.

All of Wilko’s 400 shops will close by early October, according to administrators from PwC.

It means the brand's name will not disappear from high streets for good as a result of the deal, with The Range confirming that it will sell Wilko products “in-store”.

The Range, which runs 210 stores across the UK, has said it will also offer click and collect on products from Wilko.com.

Plus, major Wilko rival B&M agreed to snap up up to 51 stores in a £13million deal.

Costa

Costa is to close its cafe in West Bridgford, near Nottingham on Friday, September 22.

Customers looking to get their caffeine fix need to visit several sites nearby, including in a Co-op and a Tesco supermarket.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the Costa Coffee store on 48-50 Bridgford Road in West Bridgford will close for trade on the September 22, 2023.

"We are working with our team members to redeploy them to other stores in the local area.

"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause and advise customers to visit our nearby store on Daleside Road, Nottingham, NG2 3GG, or visit www.costa.co.uk/locations/store-locator/map to find their nearest store."

The coffee-chain, which has more than 2,000 sites across the UK, has closed the doors for a final time at four more of its shops over the past few months.

It comes after Costa Coffee's Church Street branch pulled its shutters down for one final time on September 15.

Costa has also closed branches in Cheshire, Witney and Wigan.

Farmfoods

The Farmfoods store in Market Street, Huddersfield, is to close on Sunday, September 24.

Shoppers will get the chance to snap up bargains on the shop's last day with 50% off all stock.

The bargain supermarket, famous for its frozen foods, has around 300 shops across Great Britain.

It often has some cheap offers on popular products, which shoppers regularly rush to pick up including makeup and air fryers too at stores across the country.

But this isn't the first store that Farmfoods has closed this year.

Its Cowgate store in Dundee shut in March, with another Glasgow shop closing the month before.
