The YouTuber pilot who deliberately crashed an airplane and destroyed the wreckage has been jailed for six months in federal prison.
Trevor Daniel Jacob, 30, pleaded guilty on June 30 to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation after he jumped out of the plane and let it crash into a California hillside.
Jacob, who is also a former Olympic snowboarder, crashed the small aircraft on November 24, 2021, after he took off for a solo flight at Lompoc City Airport.
He recorded it in an edited 13-minute video that drew more than one million views and has since been deleted from his page.
‘[Jacob] most likely committed this offense to generate social media and news coverage for himself and to obtain financial gain.
‘Nevertheless, this type of ‘daredevil’ conduct cannot be tolerated,’ prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum.

This image, shot by one of the many cameras mounted on the plane, captured the aircraft just moments before is smashed nose-first into a dry brush area of the forest near Santa Maria
The release went on to reveal that Jacob had ‘secured a sponsorship from a company that sold various items’ that he decided would be presented in the video.
He agreed to specifically promote a wallet made by the company in that YouTube video.
Before takeoff, he set up several cameras and a selfie stick inside the plane, and approximately 35 minutes after taking off he threw himself off the aircraft.
The video revealed him parachuting to the ground just after he soared above the Los Padres National Forest.
The many cameras inside the plane made it possible for the crash to be recorded from when it took off, to when it descended into the dry brush area of the forest near Santa Maria.
After he landed to the ground in her parachute, Jacob then hiked over to the crash site and made sure to recover the footage of the viral fame video.
Two days after the intended crash, Jacobs fessed up and informed the National Transportation Safety Board about it.
The board then went on to launch an investigation a day or so later and told him that it was his responsibility to collect and preserve the damage for examination purposes.

He then agreed to provide the agency with coordinates of the crash site and the video, and three days later the Federal Aviation Administration launched their own investigation.
‘In the weeks following the plane crash, Jacob lied to investigators that he did not know the wreckage’s location,’ the press release stated.
On December 10, Jacob and his friend flew via helicopter to the crash site to access the damage for himself, the release said.
He then went on to take straps ‘to secure the wreckage’ that the helicopter lifted and carried to Rancho Sisquoc in Santa Barbara. The evidence of the crash was then loaded onto the back of Jacob’s truck and taken to the airport where the plane originally took off from.
Two days after the crash Jacob reported it to the National Transportation Safety Board. He then said he would share all information with them about the crash, but investigators said he lied about details

‘He then cut up and destroyed the airplane wreckage’ before he got rid of the parts in trash bins across the airport and in other places.
The release said that Jacob did so ‘with the intent to obstruct federal authorities from investigating the November 24 plane crash.’
The official YouTube video of the treacherous add was uploaded to Jacob’s page and titled ‘I Crashed My Airplane.’
‘Jacob did not intend to reach his destination, but instead planned to eject from his aircraft during the flight and video himself parachuting to the ground and his airplane as it descended and crashed,’ a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office said.
