We are convinced ALIENS were landing when weird lights hovered over our homes – but the 'truth' was just annoying | The Sun
LOCALS are convinced aliens had paid a visit when they saw strange lights in the night sky – but the reality appears to be much more mundane.
People living in South London were freaked out by the odd display on Saturday night.
Several posted pictures and video on social media, showing the flickering lights converging before eerily moving apart.
And many said they believed aliens were landing.
But one social media user thinks they know what really caused it – London Stadium using their high-powered lamps.
Alicia Teoh saw the lights over East London from her home in Hither Green in the south.

She said: “The lights were quite distinct but from my point of view they were tinged a whitish colour and were constantly moving in a pattern.
“At some times they would move far away then move back again.”
She posted pictures of the phenomenon on Facebook and also took video footage – receiving dozens of replies.
One suggested it was Elon Musk’s satellites, others planes, while one joked it may have been Father Christmas and others said it could be drones.

But overwhelmingly most put it down to UFOs manned by aliens, with one saying: “We all thought aliens were landing.”

One said she had seen it before, saying: “Looks like what me and my partner saw last month when we were in Beckenham Place Park. We were watching them for a while.
“First thought they were stars but defo not. They looked just like this about eight of them and were moving.”
Meanwhile another saw them and posted on Twitter, saying: “I keep seeing these lights all over London, does anyone know what they are from? #ufo #london #weirdlights.”
And another added: “Saw these weird lights tonight over London I guess they are amping us #UFO #London #unexplained,” before adding: “I don't usually think to much into these things but it’s super weird.”
It seems though the display was possibly due to the London Stadium at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford using their lights.
The stadium has a state-of-the-art lighting system, with light to sound synchronisation using spotlights and LED floodlights.
The venue has previously hosted the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the London 2017 World Athletics Championships, the 2019 Major League Baseball London Series, and performers like the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses and Beyoncé.
Graham Gilmore, CEO, London Stadium, said in September 2021: “The impressive new lighting system certainly adds that wow factor for all events, putting the visitor experience at the heart of everything we do here at the London Stadium.
