Tupac Shakur murder suspect Keefe D is 'seeking bail by Christmas'
Tupac Shakur’s prime murder suspect Keefe D is hoping to be home by Christmas as his lawyers prepare bail application to release back to his Nevada home claiming he is not a flight risk, family friend says
- Davis, 60, entered a not guilty plea in the fatal 1996 shooting of Tupac Shakur
The prime suspect in Tupac Shakur’s murder plans to spend Christmas at home in Nevada as his lawyers prepare his bail application, a family friend has claimed.
Duane Keith ‘Keffe D’ Davis, 60, is a former Southern California street gang leader who was arrested in September on suspicion of orchestrating the Las Vegas drive-by shooting that killed Tupac Shakur 27 years ago.
Davis is the only one from inside the car suspected of being responsible for firing the fatal shot at Shakur that is still alive – he is also the only person to be charged with a crime related to the murder. He now faces a trial set for June 3, 2024.
The self-described ‘gang member’ entered a not guilty plea in a Las Vegas courtroom earlier this month and was later placed in protective custody.
But the accused killer now ‘wants to be out on bail’, alleging he is not a flight risk, and is aiming to be home for the holidays, an acquaintance of his family told The Sun.

The insider claims that Davis has asked his legal team to push an application for bail forward ‘as soon as possible’ because he wants to be home with his family by ‘Christmas ideally or at least in the New Year’.
The accused murderer reportedly wants to ‘fight for my freedom, but do it from the comfort of my home’.
The acquaintance says Davis’ case is based on the fact his actions over the past two years, including that he is ‘no longer involved in criminal activity at all’ and that he did not flee once he realized detectives were investigating him for murder.
‘Even when they raided his home in the summer, he remained with his family and didn’t flee. He didn’t resist arrest and has been an unproblematic prisoner so far,’ the source said. ‘He believes he deserves to be at home while building his defense.’
Davis and his family are also understood to be concerned about his health which has seen him battle colon cancer in recent years. The insider claims that his loved ones ‘feel he will have a better chance of staying healthy away from the custody system’.
Davis’ public defenders Robert Arroyo and Charles Cano have previously confirmed that they will file a bail application. MailOnline has approached the attorneys for comment.
The decision to grant bail will be determined by Judge Carli Kierny, who set his trial date last week. It is unclear if the Clark County District Attorney’s office will fight the request.
Prosecutors told a grand jury that Davis implicated himself in the killing in multiple interviews and a 2019 tell-all memoir that described his life leading a Crips sect in Compton
Footage of his arrest showed the moment Davis brags that he’s a ‘pro’ when being bundled into the back of the police car – as well as the fact he’s allegedly implicated in the ‘biggest case in Las Vegas history’
Tupac Shakur was born in New York City to two Black Panther activists. He sold 75 million records worldwide and is considered one of the most influential rappers of all time
Davis, originally from Compton, California was arrested on September 29 outside a Las Vegas-area home where police served a search warrant July 17.
Davis remains jailed without bail, did not testify before the grand jury that indicted him, and has previously declined from jail to speak.
The indictment alleges that Davis obtained and provided a gun to someone in the back seat of a Cadillac before the car-to-car gunfire that mortally wounded Shakur and wounded rap music mogul Marion ‘Suge’ Knight at an intersection just off the Las Vegas Strip.
Knight, now 58, is serving 28 years in a California prison for the death of a Compton businessman in 2015.
Davis is the only person still alive who was in the vehicle from which shots were allegedly fired. Prosecutors have said they aren’t planning on seeking the death penalty for Davis’ alleged crime.
Prosecutors allege the 1996 shooting followed clashes between rival East Coast and West Coast groups for dominance in the musical genre dubbed ‘gangsta rap.’
The grand jury was told that Shakur was involved in a brawl at a Las Vegas Strip casino with Davis’ nephew, Orlando ‘Baby Lane’ Anderson, shortly before the shooting.
Anderson, then 22, was in the car with Davis but denied involvement in Shakur´s killing. Anderson died two years later in a shooting in Compton.

Davis apparently implicated himself during multiple interviews and in his memoir that described his life leading a Crips gang sect in Compton.
He wrote that he was promised immunity from prosecution in 2010 when he told authorities in Los Angeles what he knew about the fatal shootings of Shakur and rival rapper Christopher Wallace six months later in Los Angeles. Wallace was known as The Notorious B.I.G. and Biggie Smalls.
Shakur died at age 25. He had five No. 1 albums, was nominated for six Grammy Awards and was inducted in 2017 into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He received a posthumous star this year on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A street near where Shakur lived in Oakland, California, in the 1990s was renamed earlier this month in his honor.
