A swingers’ club, complete with 18 bedrooms, a cinema and ‘massage area’, will be built inside an aquarium after a local council gave the go-ahead for the conversion.

The private members club is set to be developed on the site of Dave’s Aquarium, on Folds Road, Bolton, following plans proposed by a Yorkshire business tycoon with experience running a similar swingers’ establishment in Leeds.

Peter Hemingway, owner of ‘the largest swingers club in Yorkshire’, said that his clientele ‘are on the whole very sociable people’ before getting the green light from Bolton Council.

Plans show that the club will feature a dancefloor, bar, sauna, changing rooms, a decking area for a pool and spa, a massage room and a space that has been labelled a ‘private room’.

Mr Hemingway, who has run Pandora’s swingers’ club in Leeds for seven years, gave a crime impact statement along with the plans, stating that police have never had to attend the club for any reason.

He said: ‘For the past seven years I have own and run a similar establishment in Leeds, Pandora’s.

‘During this time we have had no instances of anti-social behaviour at all and we have never had police attend our club for any reason.

‘We will be operating a strictly members only policy in our club, any prospective couples who wish to join must show ID when joining.

‘Our minimum age for joining is 25. ‘Single males who wish to join the club must fill in an application online and attend a face to face interview before joining.

‘We will not allow single males to join on the door so that we can evaluate potential members before joining.

‘Club members in our community are very well behaved and on the whole very sociable people who attend the club for social interaction in a safe and well managed environment.

‘To put it simply our clientele are well behaved.’

Mr Hemingway said that the new club will also boost employment in the area, and will not sell any alcoholic drinks despite a bar on the plans, adding ‘the bar is for soft drinks and socialising only’.

The club will take over the ground and first floors of the L-shaped three-storey part of the building, as well as an enclosed courtyard area of the aquarium

The nightlife business tycoon also aims to create an inclusive environment to welcome members of the LGBT and trans communities, according to The Bolton News.

The site for the new club ,which currently operates as an angling shop and aquarium, has been left vacant and used as storage.

The club will take over the ground and first floors of the L-shaped three-storey part of the building, as well as an enclosed courtyard area, according to Bolton Council’s report.

While Mr Hemingway did not propose what time the club would open or close, the local authority said that ‘given the context of the locality and separation to sensitive properties, no conditions are considered necessary to limit operational hours in this instance’.

The building is approximately 100m from the nearest homes, which the council said would mean it is ‘not considered likely to have an adverse impact on residential amenity in terms of noise and disturbance’.

The new club, which has not been named yet, is now set to open at a later date.
