Police probe scene of Tesco petrol station horror where man ‘set himself on fire’ before he was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition

Police are probing the scene of a Tesco petrol station after a man reportedly set himself alight on the forecourt leaving himself in a life-threatening condition in hospital.
Emergency services were called to the petrol station on Victoria Avenue East in Blackley, Greater Manchester, at around 7:35pm on Monday to reports of a man on fire.
The man was found on the forecourt with severe burns and was treated at the scene by fire crews and paramedics. He is reportedly suffering with burns across 90 per cent of his body.
He was then taken to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
Crime scene investigators from Greater Manchester Police were seeing poring over the scene of the incident, with a forensic officer being spotted taking swabs from across the forecourt.

The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious, but enquiries are ongoing.
A ‘burnt out suitcase’ could be seen at the site of the incident, as well as two fire extinguishers and a large empty bottle.
A burnt shoe could also be seen at the scene, though it is not know who it belonged to.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘At around 7.35pm, officers were called to reports for the concern of the welfare of a man on Victoria Avenue East, Manchester.
‘A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.’
A cordon remains in place.

The petrol station is usually open till midnight, but was closed off from 7:40 pm onwards
Emergency services raced to the Tesco petrol station in Blackley, Manchester on Monday night
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added last night: ‘At 7.30pm this evening, firefighters were called to a supermarket on Victoria Avenue, Manchester.
‘Two fire engines from Philips Park and Whitefield fire stations arrived quickly at the scene.
‘Fire crews helped a male casualty at the scene, including trauma care, before they were conveyed to hospital via our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service. GMFRS remain at the scene.’
