'Incest house of horrors' father is pictured for the first time

‘Incest house of horrors’ father is pictured for the first time as it is claimed he ‘beat and chased his mentally disabled son out of the home when he wanted to have sex with his daughter’

  • Piotr Gierasik would force intellectually disabled son, 24, to leave home in Poland so he could have sex with his daughter Paulina Gierasik, 20, it is claimed
  • Piotr and Paulina now face life in prison for incest and murder of three babiesĀ

A father suspected of murdering three babies from an incestuous relationship with one daughter and the rape of another has been pictured for the first time.Ā

Piotr Gierasik, 54, was pictured being escorted by police officers from the prosecutor’s office towards a waiting van in the Polish town ofĀ KoscierzynaĀ after being being charged alongside his daughter Paulina, 20, for incest and the murder of newborn babies.Ā

It comes as neighbours in the village of Czerniki, northern Poland, claimed Piotr would beat and chase his intellectually disabled son Damian out of their home when he wanted to have sex with Paulina.

As police continue to question the pair after discovering theĀ rotting remains of the babies in the basement of their home, locals described seeingĀ Damian sitting alone at the bus stop or outside the community centre for hours crying.

‘There were times when the boy spent many hours on the street, no one wanted him. I wanted to help him, but I was afraid that if his father found out he would start another row with him,’ a neighbour toldĀ Fakt.Ā Ā

She added: ‘He kept starting fights and calling him abusive names. I didn’t want to create any more problems for him.’

Another neighbour said that Damian, who is now being looked after in a care centre, had told her: ‘My dad beats me, calls me names and throws me out of the house. He swears at me.’Ā

The neighbour continued: ‘He added that there is something else. I asked what, and he said it was about the father and daughter… and that’s why they kicked him out. I don’t know if he saw it, but he must have seen it because how did he know they were doing something like that?’

The harrowing claims come as Piotr was pictured for the first time as he was escorted by police officers following his arrest for murder and incest. The father and Paulina are now facing life in prison after the remains of three babies were discovered at their home last week.

Piotr, 54, and Paulina Gierasik, 20, allegedly dumped all three of the incest-born children in their basement

Two babies were buried in shallow graves in the basement, while a third is understood to have been left in a bag

Police had conducted a visit at the property after receiving a disturbing tip-off from social services, but while combing the property for evidence discovered a filthy stench emanating from a basement inside the house.Ā

Upon further inspection, they made the horrific find – the rotting corpses of three children who had been tossed into the pitch-black pit.Ā

Two of the babies were stuffed in plastic bags and buried in a shallow grave in the soft ground beneath the house. A third – believed to belong to another of Piotr’s daughters after he allegedly raped her – was simply left to decompose.

Inspectors were forced to pick their way along a dank corridor crudely held together by cement and crumbling brickwork before lowering themselves into the gloom to make their gruesome discovery.Ā

It comes as it emerged that PiotrĀ also posted a photo of his daughter Paulina online with the caption ‘Hot girl to take’.

The photo taken in November 2019 shows the then 15-year-old girl standing in a kitchen and looking straight at the camera as she prepares some food.

According to neighbours, the photo was taken just after Paulina’s order sister had fled the house of horrors after being raped for years by her father.

One local told Super Express newspaper: ‘Back then, he treated [the older daughter] like his property.

‘He never let her go anywhere alone. She finally gathered her courage and ran away. Now she has a husband and children. She doesn’t maintain contact with her father’.

Joanna Mikołajska, head of the Social Welfare Centre in neighbouring Stara Kiszewa where Paulina worked and studied in the evenings said: ‘Everyone, including us, is asking ourselves what failed and what we could have done differently.

‘But this is not a question that will be answered today.’

Locals interviewed by local media told how the Piotr and Paulina were in a relationship for four years and ‘walked around hand-in-hand’.Ā

Colleagues of Paulina at a cake shop in the neighbouring village of Stara Kiszewa have now told how her father ‘shaved her head so that other boys wouldn’t look at her’ and that sheĀ looked up to him ‘as if he were God’.

The father and daughter – who are said to have ‘lived like a couple’ – were each charged with multiple counts of murder and each of incest.

Paulina’s colleagues said they became suspicious that she was pregnant after she started to wear large, loose-fitting clothes. She then took three weeks off work but returned a week later.

One fellow shop worker told the Super Express newspaper: ‘We all guessed she was pregnant, I think she had tied belts around herself like a sort of corset.

‘When she returned early from her holiday the change was visible. She was much thinner, weaker, and constantly tired.

‘When we asked about the child, she feigned surprise and denied it.’

But MailOnline can now reveal that prosecutors missed five potential chances to stop Piotr before the remains of the three babies were found in his home.Ā

Piotr was quizzed by authorities on five separate occasions over the last 12 years about claims that he was having sex with his daughters and abusing his children.

But all the investigations were discontinued due to lack of evidence after he fiercely denied any wrong-doing and his daughters apparently refused to admit what had been happening.

Villagers have already revealed how they repeatedly warned social services in Poland that they believed jobless Piotr was sleeping with his daughters.

But the full number of investigations he had been subject to has only now been revealed by Grayna Wawryniuk, a spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdansk.

She told MailOnline that Piotr who had 12 children with his late wife Hanna first faced an allegation of incest 12-years-ago, and then another about ‘two or three years later’.

The other three investigations centred on alleged abuse of members of his family in more recent years.

Ms Wawryniuk said all the investigations were ‘discontinued’ with no charges bought due to a lack of evidence.

Prosecutors are now looking back at the old cases to try and decide whether the correct decisions were made at the time or if more could have been done.

Ms Wawryniuk said: ‘No proceedings resulted in an indictment being brought to court.

‘These matters will be analysed under superior official supervision. We will examine them to check the completeness and correctness of the assessment of the evidence.

‘Why they were discontinued is currently being looked into. A decision has been made to analyse and re-examine the completeness and correctness of these proceedings.

‘We are also looking at whether evidence was fully collected and assessed at the time and whether it could have provided the basis for any other specific substantive decision.’

Ms Wawryniuk said she was not yet able to release any initial findings from autopsies carried out on the remains of the babies.

She was unable to comment on local reports that one baby appeared to have been born only a few weeks earlier and other two were in a more advanced ‘state of decomposition’.

Ms Wawryniuk added: ‘The expert did not prepare a comprehensive final opinion because he needs additional tests that will enable him to answer questions related to the causes and time of death.

‘The prosecutor has to decide at what point certain information can be provided.’

Villagers have claimed that they alerted authorities over the years after hearing the sounds of ‘moaning and screaming’ from Piotr’s detached home on the outskirts of Czerniki.

Others became suspicious after seeing shaven-headed Piotr walking hand in hand with Paulina, and appearing to treat her more as wife than a daughter.

The father and daughter are also said to have been seen choosing perfumes together on rare outings to a local shop and calling each other, ‘Darling’.

One neighbour, a former soldier called Sylvester, 38, told MailOnline this week that a villager who had once made allegations against Piotr had been ordered to apologise to him after no evidence was found.

Piotr’s alleged incestuous relationship with Paulina was only exposed last week after staff at the cake shop where she worked became suspicious that she was covering up her latest pregnancy.

One colleague told social services that Paulina may have secretly given birth after she appeared visibly pregnant, despite trying to hide it by wearing baggy clothes, and then seemed to have lost weight when she returned from ‘holiday’.

The tip off led to a social worker visiting Paulina and coaxing her into confessing what had happened after persuading her domineering father to leave the room.

Katarzyna Matyszczak, the manager of the Cukiernia cake shop in Stara Kiszewa where Paulina worked around two miles from her home, told local media that the staff member who reported her concerns was a ‘hero’.

She said: ‘Paulina has had an apprenticeship in our shop for three years and was training to be a confectioner. She worked in production.

‘I can’t complain about her work as she worked well. For some time now, her colleagues had been saying that they suspected she was pregnant.

‘They told me that Paulina had gained weight and her belly was visible. Finally, as her superior, I took her to my office for an interview.

‘It was about four weeks ago. I asked her directly if she was pregnant. She told me she wasn’t. I asked her this question several times and each time she said no. She was visibly upset. She told me this straight to my face.

‘She is a 20-year-old woman. We did what we should have done. We had a conversation with her and that was the end of the matter.

‘Shortly after this conversation, Paulina took nine days off. She later came back. There was no more pregnancy.

‘One of the employees reported her suspicions to social services. I’m proud of her, it takes courage to do something like that. For many people she is a hero.’

Ms Matyszczak admitted in her interview with Fakt newspaper that Paulina appeared to have a close relationship with her father.

She said: ‘We start production at 8 am, and her father would bring her to work five minutes before. It was the same when she finished. He was always there to pick her up five minutes early.

‘It was not even visible that she maintained any relationships with her peers. It was strange for us. After all, she is a 20-year-old woman.

‘She was a good trainee, she did what she was supposed to do, but when it came to character, she was quite conflicted. She could have her own opinion.

‘I had already interviewed her earlier because there was some conflict between employees. Even her father came to me to intervene. It wasn’t an easy conversation. I said what I had to say.’

Piotr is said to have regularly abused his wife Hanna before she died aged just 38 in September 2008, leaving him to bring up their eight sons and four daughters.

Most of his children had left home, and he was only living with Paulina and his 24-year-old disabled son who has mental health issues, at the time of his arrest.

Locals now fear there could be even more dead babies from another of Piotr’s daughters who may have been raped by him.

A villager has recalled how the young woman was pregnant with twins, and was taken out of the area to supposedly give birth, but nobody knew what had happened to the children.

Many of the 180 residents of Czerniki which takes its name from the Polish word for ‘blackberries’ are racked with guilt about their failure to earlier unmask the ‘monster’ in their midst.

Sickened villagers have placed three glass memorial candle holders along with a cuddly toy elephant in the front garden of the Gierasik family home as a tribute to the dead babies.

Some have admitted that they were scared of Piotr who previously lived in Gdansk with his family and moved to Czerniki with his wife and children around 20-years-ago.

The family are said to have initially embraced country life, and enjoyed mushroom foraging trips to local forests.

But rock music fan Piotr who lived on benefits as the carer for his disabled son was known for his angry outbursts and was often heard screaming at his late wife and children.

Piotr tried to pose as a loving father on Facebook, regularly re-posting viral pictures of sick children to make out that he cared about them.

But in December 2019, he re-posted a news report about a 27-year-old Polish man being charged with the rape of his 59-year-old mother and facing up to 15 years in jail.

His post attracted no comments at the time, but four-days-ago following his arrest, someone commented on it saying: ‘And you are spoiling your daughters.’
