Watch the moment Big Brother’s Kerry wins £35k in Deal Or No Deal’s famous ‘power cut’ episode | The Sun

LONG before she made her entrance into the Big Brother house, new contestant Kerry had another memorable telly appearance.

Sixteen years ago, the NHS manager, 40, from Essex tried her luck on Deal Or No Deal winning £35,000 in the process.

Her 2007 episode can be chalked down as a classic, not only because of the banter Kerry had with host Noel Edmonds, but because the studio suffered a power cut mid game.

As Kerry expertly said her piece to camera ahead of the break, the studio where the Channel 4 show was being recorded was plunged into darkness prompting gasps from the audience.

Noel said: "Well, here's a first for us. We've obviously had a power problem here in the dream factory.

"Kerry, I'm so sorry. We have a procedure which we will now follow because we don't know how long this is going to be."

The boxes in front of the contestants were then put into locked cages to protect the integrity of the game.

When the show returned after the break, the lights were back on and Noel could be seen unpacking the cage, before saying "this is most unusual".

The audience was informed the cause of the outage was someone cutting through a cable next door.

It was then business as usual as Kerry rode her luck to a sizeable offer.

However, it was far from an easy decision as, at the time, she could have potentially had one of the two largest numbers in her box: £100k or £250k.

After much deliberation, she took the money and was delighted to discover she would have only won £500 had she have kept her box and played on.

In the intervening years, Kerry has not lost any of her excitability, if last night's Big Brother arrival is anything to go by.

She shouted loudly as she made her way to the house's front door in her mobility scooter.

Explaining her reason for taking part, she said: "I love the programme. It is, for me, the ultimate reality TV show ever.

"I've got multiple sclerosis and so the reason why I never applied before is because I always saw those whacking great big stairs to get into the house.

"It just felt a little bit unachievable because for the first three years of my illness I was in a wheelchair.

"When I saw it was coming back and searching for real people from all walks of life, I thought, this is my year."
