Richard Madeley faces calls to be sacked after question about Hamas attacks
Richard asks guest if she knew about Hamas attacks beforehand
Richard Madeley is facing calls to be “sacked” from Good Morning Britain following his interview with Palestinian MP Layla Moran.
In a clip from Tuesday’s show, which has been circulated widely on social media, Richard appeared to ask the MP whether she or her family knew about the Hamas attacks before they happened.
“You have connections in Gaza,” the host began before he asked: “Did you have any indication of what was going to happen 10 days ago, two weeks ago. Was there any word on the street?”
The Mp looked slightly taken aback as she replied “Not this.
“I think everyone has been surprised by first of all, partly the timing, the sophistication and the the way that it’s happened.

“What I will say is that I have been warning and others have in Parliament as well for a number of years now.
“That if we don’t find a way, you know, people say, ‘Go back to the negotiating table’, the fact of the matter is, there has not been a table, let alone to go back to the negotiating table for at least 10 years now.
“And this is a cycle of violence and every time there is a cycle of violence, my worry now is that this is radicalising in another generation on all sides, and that we have to stop this hatred.”
She added: “We have to bring people together and find a way through.”

However, Richard’s question sparked outrage among GMB viewers, and hundreds took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their anger.
Many also called for the ITV presenter to be “sacked” from Good Morning Britain or for him to be “suspended”.
@JaneCanDoSE4 fumed: “I DON’T understand how this man is STILL an interviewer for GMB-he’s appalling & a constant embarrassment!!” (sic)
@opfawcett pleaded: “He really ought to be sacked. For this, sure but also generally.”
@SA85_786 argued: “DID RICHARD MADELEY JUST ASK A PALESTINIAN MP IF SHE KNEW ABOUT THE ATTACKS BEFORE IT HAPPENED?? Absolutely VILE and OFFENSIVE! He should apologise or be taken off.” (sic)
@KBGreyhoundlady echoed: “What an appalling man. He should be sacked.”
“Can we report this to Ofcom or whoever?” @anjgi asked.
“Surely he has reached the end of his employability?” @EleanorRylance questioned as @Elainebks stated: “Madeley should be suspended at least for this.”
@adamnicotera urged: “Fire him immediately.” While @TNTAndrew1 said: “He should be sacked.”
@HfitzHazel pointed out: “The response from Layla Moran at being asked such an outrageous & appalling question says it all.”
@LordBeamish went on to say: “It really is time that Madeley’s career was humanely destroyed. Madeley needs to go – just shocking.”
However, some stepped in to defend the host, with @corysix6 tweeting: “Sounds like a fair question.”
A Good Morning Britain spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Richard is sorry that he has upset viewers with his question to Layla Moran. His intention was to understand the mood and atmosphere amongst the civilian population of Gaza immediately before the attacks.
“He asked Layla about her family in Gaza City because she had discussed speaking to them earlier in the interview. He did not mean to imply that she or her family might have had any prior knowledge of the attacks.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
