Neighbours Toadie star speaks out on quitting soap
Neighbours stalwart Ryan Moloney, who plays Toadie Rebecchi in the Australian soap, has admitted that he had planned on leaving the show before it was cancelled in 2022.
The star, who made his first appearance in 1995 for what was only intended to be one episode, recently returned to screens in the role that made him famous as the show was given a new lease of life by Amazon Freevee.
However, had the long-running drama not gone off air, it could have been very different as the Celebrity Big Brother 2013 second runner-up explained.
“I actually had planned on leaving beforehand but then we heard, ‘I think we might be getting cancelled soon’ vibes,” he exclusively told Express.co.uk.
“So I was like, well, let’s just stay until the end because if I finish before the end, then I’m going to kick myself because I really want to be there to the end,” he laughed.

Ryan also discussed the fact that he is the first Australian voice for the Amazon Ring service, and had already started planning a future away from the iconic programme.
“I was like, alright, well, we made it to the end. And then what am I going to do? And I started stoking some fires in the UK,” he confessed.
“And it looked like some work was about to start happening throughout the UK and I was gonna be over your way.”
However, his plans were scuppered when Amazon Freevee announced they were saving the show and rebooting it for their popular streaming service.

He added: “[Then it became] okay, cool. Well, we’re not going to do any of that now because Neighbours is back and being in Neighbours is a piece of history in itself.”
“Restarting of Neighbours is almost bigger,” he enthused. “So, I wanted to be part of it and see kind of where it ends.
“And you know, it’s looking glossier and with Amazon, ready to help we’ll see what happens?”
