I was on First Dates – trolls say I deserve to die for 'looking like an alien' but I refuse to let them win | The Sun

FIRST Dates star Eve Betts has been receiving death threats since publicly revealing she has alopecia on an episode of the show back in 2017.

While on a date with Welshman Jordan, the beauty therapist revealed she has alopecia and took off her wig on camera.

Now the 28-year-old uses her social media platform to raise awareness about the hair loss disease, but admitted in a BBC interview that she has been trolled for “looking like an alien” as a result of her appearance on the Channel 4 dating show.

“I get a lot of death threats. People saying that I should just die because of the way that I look,” Eve revealed.

She continued: “I get quite a lot of personal comments on my appearance comparing me to the worst things, like an alien or a robot.”

“All of these ‘out of this world’ kind of comments hurt more than just the standard abuse,” she said, referring to her childhood bullying at school as she’s had alopecia all her life.

Six years on from her appearance on First Dates, Eve admitted she still gets death threats “on a weekly basis” and that it’s been taking a toll on her “mentally.”

“They’re abusing me because I have alopecia and that’s something that I can’t help. That can just set the whole tone for my day,” she said.

However, even now, Eve is doing her best not to let those comments get to her. She’s turned her diagnosis into something positive and has created a safe space for herself and other people with alopecia on her social media platform.

And, she’s still proud of her appearance on First Dates as it helped to raise awareness about alopecia.

On the show, Eve enjoyed a nice date with Jordan, who was also looking to find love. Prior to meeting her, he told the confessional: “I do want to find love … if the energy’s right when I first meet someone they could have a bald head, I’m not bothered, it’s their personality and their energy they give off is what I’m looking for.”

Just moments later, after Jordan revealed he used to have a topknot, Eve told her date about her alopecia and removed her wig, which he asked her to keep off.

“It suits you,” he added, noticing her head tattoo.

Although it was a very sweet date, it didn’t end in love, and Eve has since moved on with current beau Callum Jones.

First Dates is available to watch on Channel 4.
