Coronation Street in chaos as stars forced off cobbles and filming halted

The cast of Coronation Street were forced off set while filming outside after a dramatic change in weather on the Salford set.

Actress Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor in the popular ITV soap, took to Instagram to share that she had to abandon filming due to torrential rainfall.

Sharing a video of herself and an umbrella, she added the text: "Rained off on the cobbles this morning… great start to a Monday @coronationstreet."

The filming setback comes as the UK continues to be hit with the aftermath of Hurricane Lee, with much of the country being issued a yellow weather warning.

Current guidelines warn of heavy rain and potential flooding in the Northwest of England, where filming for Corrie takes place.

And this isn't the first time that Samia has been affected by horrible weather in recent months, having previously shared that her holiday in Mallorca turned into a nightmare following a tornado.

Posting some holiday snaps to Instagram, the actress penned the caption: "Our holiday in Mallorca consisted of.. flight delays (there and back), stolen bank card, a tornado, and I had a bit of a bug for the first few days.

"BUT we managed to get there and back safely, I got my stolen money back from my bank, we stayed safe in the storm and we got to spend time in the sun, see friends and eat lovely food. Home now and there’s no place I’d rather be!

"I know I could’ve just put some caption about holidays been amazing (which they are obviously), but I feel like we get enough of people 'living their best lives' on here without showing the reality sometimes.. Hope you’ve all had a lovely summer break and to those people affected by the flight delays… I feel you!"

Samia has long been an actress on Coronation Street, where she has played Maria Connor since 2000.

She has been married to Dancing on Ice professional skater Sylvain Longchambon since 2016, and the pair share a six year old son, Yves. She is also mum to daughter Freya, 13.

Samia recently opened up to OK! about her family life, as she spoke about whether she and her husband had any plans to expand their family.

The star said that, although they are not currently considering any more children, they would like to add an animal companion to the family.

Samia shared: "We are toying with the idea of another dog, but we need to convince my mum that it's a good idea because she helps us with our dog, so that might happen but that's as far as we are going."
