Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley – My kids learnt about the show from TikTok
Day one in the Big Brother house is here and the reality show wouldn’t be the same without the narration of Marcus Bentley. So the Geordie star was over the moon to be invited back for the ITV2 reboot.
“I’m so buzzing for it coming back – I would have been devastated if they didn’t ask me to narrate,” Marcus, 56, admits. “There’s loads of things to come, things I’ve never done before and things that didn’t exist five years ago. It’s just been a thrill.”
This time, Marcus will be working with new hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best – who he first met a decade ago on Big Brother’s Bit On The Side.
“I’m looking forward to meeting them properly. I’ve loved watching AJ’s career go stratospheric, especially on Strictly Come Dancing – which she should have won!” he says.
“I was working on something else to do with Big Brother and someone told me, ‘You’re going to be thrilled when you see Will and AJ together. They have so much chemistry, they’re really special together,’” he adds. “I’m thrilled that they are part of this new era.”
Marcus wasn’t the only one in his family thrilled by his Big Brother return – his three kids were also excited for him. “My children are in their early twenties and it’s been a big part of their life. My youngest were babies when the show first started and they’ve grown up with it.
“They didn’t watch Big Brother much, but my youngest daughter gets a lot of her Big Brother knowledge from TikTok. She says, ‘Oh my God dad, I can’t believe your voice is on this clip!’”
Teasing what’s to come, Marcus says Big Brother’s reboot will be “the biggest thing out there”.
“Things have moved on – there are changes in TV. I’m presuming there’ll be differences but what never changes is the housemates and the tasks, these strangers come from all walks of life. Who are they? We’ll find out all their idiosyncrasies and what makes them tick. We’ll have the ones we want to boo and the ones we love.”
He adds, “That’s a thing that will never change. It’s a unique format that nothing else comes close to.”
Big Brother airs on Sunday 8th October at 9pm on ITV2
