Princess Leonor looked completely in her element as she completed military training exercises in the snowy mountains of Spain.

The royal – who celebrated her 18th birthday in October – was pictured braving the freezing cold temperatures in Astún this morning.

As she arrived at the ski resort in the Pyrenees, the future Queen was pictured wearing a camouflage  zip-up jacket – which had the Spanish flag sewn onto the arm.

Leonor’s military uniform also consists of green trousers and matching hat.

The royal tied her long hair into a bun and tucked it mostly into the back of her jacket.

She was also seen carrying a large camouflage backpack and wearing brown suede walking boots for the excursion with her peers.

Later on, the royal was pictured wearing a helmet as she received skiing lessons with the group.

For this activity, Leonor was seen wearing a black helmet and skis before heading over to the ski lift with her heavy backpack.

The future Queen appeared in particularly high spirits as she happily posed for a group photo.

The trip to the mountains is part of Leonor’s training at Zaragoza Military Academy.

Following in her father and grandfather’s footsteps, the royal enrolled in the academy in August and is completing three years of training there.

When she first arrived at the academy, Leonor completed a module to help her adapt to military life – with the Palace releasing images of the royal taking part in lessons in the classroom.

According to heraldo.es, she is staying in a cabin with as many as twelve other students and was given basic military equipment before the first training session.

During her three years at the academy, Leonor will be entitled to a salary of €417-a-month. However, the palace has said she will not claim the salary.

Rather like a boarding school, the military academy follows a strict timetable during the week. but Leonor will be free to return home at the weekends if she’s not on manoeuvres.

Leonor graduated with the International Baccalaureate from the UWC Atlantic College in the Welsh county of Vale of Glamorgan in May.

After training at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza, which is Spain’s equivalent to Sandhurst, she will go to naval school, and will complete her three years at the General Air Academy.

In July, the princess revealed her enthusiasm for soon being a cadet at the Princesa de Girona Foundation award ceremony in Girona, in Catalonia.

She said: ‘I have just finished high school and I am about to start a new stage with a period of military training.

Speaking ahead of her training, Leonor said: ‘I am happy because I know how much the Spanish value our armed forces’

‘I am happy because I know how much the Spanish value our armed forces… it is an important moment in my life and I feel very excited and determined to continue learning and giving my best effort.’

Princess Leonor’s latest appearance comes at a particularly turbulent time for the Spanish Royal Family – after Queen Letizia’s ex-brother-in-law sensationally claimed to have had a relationship with the royal both before and after her wedding to King Felipe.

Jaime Del Burgo, 53, who is currently based in the UK, has recently contributed to a tell-all book about the Spanish royal, where he makes the far-fetched claim they were still romantically involved after Letizia’s 2004 wedding to King Felipe.

The entrepreneur – who claims he was dating Letizia when she met King Felipe – shared an undated selfie the Queen, 51, took in a bathroom mirror during one of her pregnancies as ‘evidence’ of their relationship on X.
