‘I had 4 beers before winning darts worlds – I couldn’t have done it without it’
Two-time darts World Champion Dennis Priestley has put his success down to drinking alcohol before stepping up to the oche.
Priestley was one of the premier attractions on the darts circuit in the 1990s, and he first conquered the world in 1991 beating Eric Bristow 6–0 in the final of the then-BDO World Championships. He then repeated the feat in 1994, this time in the WDC – a precursor for the PDC.
However, the Brit has now pinned his success on alcohol, which he claimed helped calm his nerves. Speaking to OLBG, Preistley opened up on drinking before games.

He said: "Players will definitely be drinking before games, even at this year's tournament. There aren't many that go on stage without having a drink before they play. If you can name a handful of players who haven't had a drop of alcohol before their games this year, I'll be gobsmacked.
"Drinking before games definitely helps the players. If it hadn't been for alcohol, I probably wouldn't have won anything in the sport. You've just got to know exactly the right amount you need to keep a steady nerve.
