Linda Nolan: I never thought Id see Christmas but my brain tumours have shrunk!

Linda Nolan has shared the happy news that her brain tumours have shrunk and says she is looking forward to celebrating a Christmas that she thought she would never see.

In March, singer and actress Linda, 64, was told that her breast cancer had spread to her brain and as she appeared on Thursday's Good Morning Britain she admitted that she had not expected to make this Christmas.

But this week, Linda was given the incredible news that there is still shrinkage on her tumours and has been given the go ahead to celebrate the festive season with her family, which includes Coleen, Maureen, Denise and Anne Nolan.

Asked by Ben Shephard how she felt hearing the good news, she said: "It's amazing. When we went in I knew straight away it was good news because of the look on my consultant's face. He said that the scans were good and there was shrinkage with the tumours.

"I wanted to put my arms around him and kiss him but I thought they might throw me out."

Susanna Reid told her it was the best Christmas present and she replied: "When I spoke to you before I didn't think I'd make Christmas. I was hoping to make the birth of my nephew's baby who was born at the end of July and then I was thinking how many more milestones will I make."

Linda added: "At the moment I feel good. I've got a little bit of pain," saying that she had been out walking a lot on a visit to a garden centre.

But she said of the garden centre visit: "I thought how lucky I am after nine months and getting the worst possible news, having a great time with my sisters and friend.

"Now it's all excitement for Christmas. I'll have to rush out and buy presents."

Ben and Susanna asked her about still being able to laugh and joke with her sisters and brother Brian, despite her bleak diagnosis.

Linda said: "There's two ways you can deal with this, you can be fun and get on with your life. I wake up and think another day to make memories, I don't wake up and think it's another day closer. That helps me, and sometimes I have to drag myself out of bed because you can dip down into a depression.

"Some people think our humour's a little dark, but we know always what we're doing and what we're saying."

Linda has also written a column for The Mirror about her latest appointment and added that she had met her teen idol Donny Osmond at a show last week, despite telling her friend when she booked tickets that she should have a back up waiting to go as she didn't think she would be there.

Explaining more about her health, Linda wrote: "The consultant explained the memory loss, hearing loss and slight stammer I’ve been getting are because a tumour is impacting the area in my brain linked to my cognitive behaviour. It’s not nice to think about it.

"But he told me to keep using my mind. By which he meant, do more crosswords. I can combat this with three down, five across. So that’s what I’ll do. And just get on and enjoy. We’ve two Christmas trees up and I’m ready for a knees-up.

"It’s going to be a big Christmas, with absolutely no shrinkage at all."
