Kate Garraways husband faces critical heart attack
Kate Garraway’s husband has suffered a major heart attack which left him fighting for his life.
Derek Draper, 56, has been seriously ill since contracting Covid in the early days of the pandemic in 2020.
Good Morning Britain host Kate, 56, has cancelled all TV and radio work to keep a vigil at his bedside.
A source close to the family said: “Derek suffered a massive heart attack which has left him fighting for his life all over again.”
“It was sudden and a shock as he had been doing well and was in great spirits, looking forward to Christmas.”
“We just hope there will be some more positive news soon.”
Derek spent 13 months in hospital, making him Britain’s longest-suffering coronavirus victim.
Kate – who has daughter Darcy, 17, and son Billy, 14, with him – revealed in October her husband was not doing well and his health battle had left him with organ damage and requiring 24/7 care at home.
A month earlier, she had admitted: “I’d love to be able to tell you that, since Derek has been home, everything has been easy, that the miracle of him being at home has turned the day-to-day challenges into a breeze.”
“But because we keep having emergency setbacks and he has had to be rushed to hospital, the fear of him dying has never left us. The unpredictability of his condition means we’re living on a rollercoaster.”

In December 2021, the family had a rare trip outside with Derek as they attended a pantomime at Richmond Theatre in South-West London.
Earlier this year, they went to an Elton John concert in London – and the singer dedicated Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to Derek.
Kate said: “When Derek went to sleep that night, he said, ‘I won’t let the sun go down on me’. Elton will never know how much that meant and all those people in the O2 [venue].” Wiping away tears, she added: “It keeps us going.”
Derek moved back to the family’s North London home after months of hospital treatment, and Kate spent thousands of pounds adapting it to accommodate his needs plus paying for round-the-clock carers.
His plight has also been the subject of ITV documentaries.
