I’m A Celebrity star Joe Swash gives verdict on latest winner

Joe Swash has given his verdict on fellow I’m A Celebrity campmate and all-star series winner Myleene Klass. The former EastEnders actor, who travelled down to Kent with his family for a staycation at Haven’s new flagship park on the coast this summer, also spoke about the “unpredictable” format as he appeared on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa earlier this year.

Joe won his series of ITV’s I’m A Celeb in 2008, going on to become a host of I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp and even meeting his future with Stacey Solomon on the show. However, it was musician and presenter Myleene who was crowned queen of the jungle in the special spin-off 2023 series starring former contestants, after first appearing on the show in 2006.

Joe spoke about braving the jungle for a second time and how things had changed in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. Asked if he had been expecting the winner, Joe admitted he had not.

“No, it was a very hard one to choose because it was such a different format,” he confirmed. “Usually, you sort of know who’s going to win through popularity.

“But this one was all about the trials and how good you were,” he added. “And what Myleene did for the final and the amount of stuff she ate in the trial… I don’t think anyone could have beaten her.

“She’s a warrior, she’s such a great woman,” Joe gushed. “She’s so strong and so were all of them in there – I was just blessed to be with them.”

Speaking more about his time on the all-star show, the actor continued: “Honestly, first of all, I was honoured that they asked me to be part of the first Legend series.

“I found it a lot harder this time around just because at the time no one knew,” he admitted.

“Stacey was six, seven months pregnant, so it was a really big decision. She almost made me do it – because I didn’t really want to go because of Stacey and the baby and stuff like that.

“But it was very tough because at home I knew I had all the babies. I knew Stacey was pregnant. So I got very homesick, but I love the jungle.

“It’s the most incredible experience, you know, to still be 40 years old and get to do these incredible things. I’m blessed.”

Between them, Joe and Stacey share three children: four-year-old Rex, two-year-old Rose and newborn Belle.

In addition, Joe has a son named Harry, 16, from a previous relationship, while Stacey also has two sons from previous relationships: Zachary, 15, and Leighton, 11.

Elsewhere in the interview, Joe went on to praise the newly revamped Haven Kent Coast holiday park, which has recently undergone an £18 million transformation to include lots of exciting activities for kids, including a 6m jump, segways and trampolines.

“I think it’s really important to go somewhere where it caters for the kids – where they’ve got enough entertainment and enough things to do,” he said.

“As long as they’re entertained, then holidays are a lot easier. That’s why I thought Haven Holiday Park was so amazing. There’s so much! I was honestly knocked sideways by how much they’ve got for the kids there.”
