{"id":135698,"date":"2023-12-19T12:04:15","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T12:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluemull.com\/?p=135698"},"modified":"2023-12-19T12:04:15","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T12:04:15","slug":"met-office-issues-danger-to-life-alert-as-map-shows-yellow-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluemull.com\/world-news\/met-office-issues-danger-to-life-alert-as-map-shows-yellow-warning\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Office issues &apos;danger to life&apos; alert as map shows yellow warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1> Britain braces for 80mph gale-force winds: Met Office issues &#8216;danger to life&#8217; alert as map shows yellow warning in place on Thursday as gusts from Norway hurtle towards the country<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Forecasters have warned winds from Norway pose severe &#8216;danger to life&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Britain is bracing for 80mph winds this week which could put lives at risk and disrupt Christmas travel plans.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters warned the gales hurtling towards the country from Norway pose a significant &#8216;danger to life&#8217; from large waves and debris being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.<\/p>\n<p>They also warned of transport cancellations affecting road, rail and ferry as millions prepare for the festive getaway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Exposed areas in the North of England and Scotland are set to be the worst affected, with winds expected to hit 80pmh while other areas will feel gales of 60pmh and 70mph.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A yellow warning covering Scotland, Northern Ireland, the North of England and parts of the East and West Midlands is in place from the early hours of Thursday until midnight on Friday<span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/10\/79121867-12880601-image-a-1_1702983276902.jpg\" height=\"483\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Commuters braving the wind and rain today as they arrive at Waterloo Station\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/10\/79121865-12880601-image-a-3_1702983286851.jpg\" height=\"765\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The yellow wind warning is set to come into effect from the early hours of Thursday morning<\/p>\n<p>Today, forecasters said the rain will gradually clear southeastwards from England and Wales to leave a mostly dry, bright and breezy afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Met Office&#8217;s Yellow Weather Warning for Thursday in Full<\/h3>\n<p>What to expect:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.<\/li>\n<li>There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.<\/li>\n<li>There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.<\/li>\n<li>There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.<\/li>\n<li>There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.<\/li>\n<li>There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scotland and Northern Ireland will see sunshine and scattered blustery showers.<\/p>\n<p>It will be very mild across the southeast, however temperatures will be nearer average elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow will be increasingly cloudy and blustery, with rain at times. Some sunny spells are possible in the south and east.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It will be Generally mild, though tempered by strong to gale force winds for some.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Met Office meteorologist warned northern parts of the UK will be worst affected on Thursday as low pressure over Norway and high pressure in the Atlantic are set to push gale-force winds over the UK.<\/p>\n<p>They said: &#8216;It&#8217;s across northern parts that we&#8217;re going to see the strongest winds.
