Emmerdale viewers watched heartbreaking scenes as a struggling Lydia Dingle (played by Karen Blick) left the village during tonight's instalment, 8 December, but there could be trouble ahead as Kim Tate delivered an ominous warning to Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

Lydia decided she wouldn't be able to move forward from Craig Reed's evil rape unless she went to stay at her mum's for a while in the latest episode, but it came as a result of finding out that her one true friend, Kim (Claire King) had secretly been there when Craig died.

While the Dingle family still don't know that Cain was also there at the scene with Kim, his truce with the Home Farm owner is already on a knife-edge as it is.

With Lydia now out of the picture for a while, it could be that all bets are off between the longtime warring families.

As Cain warned Kim that they'd come to an agreement, the businesswoman made it clear who was in charge. Will Lydia's exit be the final straw between the pair's tentative truce?

"I hope you haven't forgotten that you still owe me for this," Kim told the mechanic. "Or I might just remember seeing you on my land after all."

"It's a bit late for that," Cain shot back, not taking the threats at first.

But Kim was keen to get her message across, as she told Cain: "I'm sure I could come up with something if I needed to."

Nodding hesitantly, Cain was clearly rattled by former villain Kim's words.

"Glad we understand each other," she finished with a smile, before walking back up the hill to her home.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person commented: "Kim letting Cain know who got the bigger balls #emmerdale."

"Kim didn't make a mistake she'll take Cain down now Lydia's gone you watch, #emmerdale," another fan guessed.

"Kim is going to turn on the Dingle family now she's lost her friend in Lydia #emmerdale," a third predicted.

What's more, many viewers are predicting that Lydia's claims she'll only be away a while were actually lies, as she looked around the Dingles' cottage wistfully after saying her goodbyes to husband Sam Dingle (James Wootton) and her stepson Samson.

"Has Lyds gone for good then? #Emmerdale," one viewer asked.

Another fan shared: "#emmerdale Lydia gave an impression she won’t be back," followed by: "Think Lydia needs to go but have a feeling we will see a completely different Lydia return much stronger not a walk over #Emmerdale"

"Looks like she's gone for good. #emmerdale," another viewer added.

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV
