<\/p>\nTHE killer of Brit student Meredith Kercher has been charged with beating up his ex-girlfriend just months after he was released from prison.<\/p>\n
Rudy Guede, 36, was freed from an Italian prison in June after serving 13 years behind bars for murdering the young Brit.<\/p>\n

Guede from the Ivory Coast was convicted for the sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher in 2008.<\/p>\n
Meredith, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey was found half-naked with her throat cut in Perugia, Italy, in September 2007.<\/p>\n
The convicted killer was originally sentenced to 30 years in prison before it was reduced to 16 years.<\/p>\n
He served 13 of those before being released on November 24, 2021.<\/p>\n
Guede was originally set to be released from prison on January 4, 2022.<\/p>\n However, he was released 45 days early for good behaviour.<\/p>\n His latest arrest comes just six months after he became a free man as he has been charged with assaulting his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend.<\/p>\n A local prosecutor has now told him to wear an electronic tag and stay at least 500m away from his former partner. <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Raffaele Sollecito – who was also on trial over the university student's murder but found not guilty – said 'it seems Guede has not changed' after another horrific crime.<\/p>\n Kercher, from Surrey, was killed just two months after moving to Italy for a study abroad programme at Perugia's prestigious university.<\/p>\n Her body was found in her bedroom with 47 stab wounds and with Guede's fingerprints at the scene.<\/p>\n The man's blood-stained palm print was also seen in the bedroom.<\/p>\n He admitted to having been at the apartment at the time of her grim death but has always declared his innocence and made it clear he didn't kill or sexually assault Kercher.<\/p>\n According to Guede's side of the story he was left in a "state of shock" when he saw her dead body surrounded by a pool of blood.<\/p>\n He said he went to the bathroom and when he came back she was laying lifeless after being stabbed to death.<\/p>\n Following the murder, Guede ran off to Germany where he was arrested days later.\u00a0<\/p>\n Guede has since told Kercher's parents in a letter that his hands were stained with her blood because he was trying to save the British student.<\/p>\n In an interview with the US Sun Guede said: "The first thing I want to say is to the Kercher family and how sorry I am for their loss.<\/p>\n "I have written a letter to them in which I explain to them how sorry I am but it\u2019s too late to say sorry for not doing enough to save Meredith.<\/p>\n "The court accepted that I tried to save her by putting towels on her wounds."<\/p>\n He went on to say: "The court convicted me of being an accessory to murder purely because my DNA was there but the (legal) documents say others were there and that I did not inflict the fatal wounds."<\/p>\n Guede is the only person handed a final conviction in connection to the case despite three others being put in jail and later acquitted.<\/p>\n Raffaele Sollecito and his girlfriend at the time of the murder Amanda Knox, 33, were convicted of murder but later released in 2011 following an appeal.<\/p>\n Knox was the housemate of Meredith but her and Sollecito were spared life sentences after serious failings in the original trial were discovered, as well as a lack of evidence.<\/p>\n Amanda has since gone on to become an author and journalist, and has spoken openly about her treatment during the ordeal.<\/p>\n In 2020, Knox told\u00a0Good Morning America\u00a0how she felt she was carrying the burden of Guede's crime.<\/p>\n She said: "I continue to this day to be shocked that he is the forgotten killer."<\/p>\n The third person to be wrongfully put behind bars was Patrick Lumumba, a bar owner.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/newspress-collage-x3fs4jbrx-1701812861771.jpg\")
