BBC Breakfast: Robot Dog won’t appear in Doctor Who special

Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary will be marked by three extra special episodes with series icons David Tennant and Catherine Tate returning to their beloved roles as The Doctor and Donna Noble.

For the second special, Wild Blue Yonder, which drops on BBC later tonight, fans will also be treated to a slew of A-list guest stars alongside the dynamic duo.

Wild Blue Yonder cast

Most notably, Coronation Street’s Susan Twist will be taking up the role of Mrs Merridew, but not much is known about the mysterious character at the moment.

Also joining the cast with some guest appearances is British icon Miriam Margoyles, although her contribution is only audible, lending her voice to the alien Meep.

Ruth Madeley, who voiced Hebe Harrison in a number of audio stories, will be making her first appearance in the main series as a new character, scientific adviser number 56 at UNIT Shirley Anne-Bingham.

Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney has also bagged a guest role as Rose Temple-Noble, the daughter of Donna and Shaun.

Despite some initial confusion in the fanbase, Yasmin is not taking over the role from Billie Piper, who will return in Wild Blue Yonder as Rose Tyler.

A number of stars will be returning to their beloved characters, with Karl Collins appearing again as Donna’s husband Shaun Temple.
