despite having passed away over 60 years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An AI recreation of Piaf&#8217;s unmistakable voice will be used to narrate &#8216;Piaf&#8217;, an upcoming film about her tumultuous life.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists from Warner Music Group have trained an AI on hundreds of recordings of Piaf, some over 80 years old, in order to &#8216;revive&#8217; Piaf&#8217;s voice and image.<\/p>\n<p>Animation will be used alongside archival footage to tell the story of how Piaf rose to become an icon, including some previously unknown aspects.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Veille, who conceived the idea for the film, says that this will &#8216;help bring her story into the 21st century.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/16\/09\/77869591-12756411-_Piaf_will_be_a_90_minute_film_about_the_life_of_Edith_Piaf_and_-a-4_1700128238942.jpg\" height=\"355\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Piaf&#8217; will be a 90-minute film about the life of Edith Piaf and will be narrated by an AI reconstruction of the singer&#8217;s voice<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/16\/10\/77871955-12756411-The_film_Piaf_will_feature_animation_as_well_as_archival_footage-a-60_1700130740899.jpg\" height=\"622\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The film, &#8216;Piaf&#8217;, will feature animation as well as archival footage of interviews, performances, and personal footage to tell the story of one of France&#8217;s most iconic musicians<\/p>\n<h3>READ MORE:\u00a0Scientists say fake faces created by AI look MORE real than human faces<\/h3>\n<p>Vielle said: &#8216;It has been the greatest privilege to work alongside Edith&#8217;s Estate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Our goal is to utilize the latest advancements in animation and technology to bring the timeless story to audiences of all ages.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>While the film will include some original recordings of Piaf&#8217;s iconic songs, such as &#8216;La Vie en Rose&#8217; and &#8216;Non, Je ne regrette rien&#8217;, the rest of the narration will be entirely AI generated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Glavas and Christie Laume, Executors of Edith Piaf&#8217;s Estate, said: &#8216;It&#8217;s been a special and touching experience to be able to hear Edith&#8217;s voice once again \u2013 the technology has made it feel like we were back in the room with her.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The film is currently at the proof-of-concept stage and Warner Music Group has partnered with production company Seriously Happy to develop the film to completion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/16\/10\/77869107-12756411-Piaf_was_born_in_1915_the_daughter_of_an_acrobat_and_a_singer_bu-a-61_1700130740902.jpg\" height=\"664\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Piaf was born in 1915, the daughter of an acrobat and a singer, but her musical talents soon one her fame and recognition in France and abroad<\/p>\n<h3>READ MORE: &#8216;World&#8217;s most advanced&#8217; humanoid robot attempts to do an impression of Blade Runner\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>Set between the 1920s and 1960s the film will chart Piaf&#8217;s rise from humble beginnings to one of France&#8217;s most beloved artists of all time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1915, the daughter of an acrobat and a singer, she is said to have been left with her grandmother who ran a brothel while her parents were out travelling to perform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, she broke into a musical career as a young girl when her father realised he could make more money if he brought the young Edith on stage with him.<\/p>\n<p>Piaf rose to fame in the 1940s until the outbreak of World War II put her career on hold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the war, she was accused of collaboration with the Nazis due to her performances at German concentration camps for French prisoners of war.<\/p>\n<p>However, the photos that were taken of the prisoners with Piaf were taken back to Paris and used to manufacture false papers and passports to help the prisoners regain their freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Resistance leaders also later confirmed that Piaf had used these tours to smuggle maps and compasses to prisoners of war to aid their escape plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After three different car crashes, Piaf became dependent on morphine and ultimately died in 1963 at the age of 47.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/16\/10\/77869105-12756411-Hundreds_of_recordings_of_Piaf_s_voice_have_been_used_to_train_a-a-62_1700130740903.jpg\" height=\"666\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of recordings of Piaf&#8217;s voice have been used to train an AI that will digital reproduce her for the narration of the upcoming film about her life<\/p>\n<p>Alain Veille, CEO of Warner Music France, said: &#8216;Edith is one of France&#8217;s greatest ever artists and she is still a source of so much pride to the French people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It is such a delicate balancing act when combining new technology with heritage artists, and it was imperative to us that we worked closely with Edith&#8217;s estate and handled this project with the utmost respect.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that AI has been used to resurrect an iconic figure for a post-humous performance.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Andy Warhol&#8217;s voice was digitally recreated for the narration of a Netflix documentary called the Andy Warhol Diaries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The voice of actor Bill Irwin was transformed into Warhol&#8217;s voice through the use of AI, almost 40 years after his death.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the rights to use the voice of actor and audiobook narrator Edward Hermann were signed over to AI company\u00a0DeepZen Ltd with his family&#8217;s permission.<\/p>\n<p>A decade after his death, Hermann&#8217;s voice was once again used to narrate several recent audiobooks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This announcement also comes after the actors&#8217;
