The Mr Olympia champion has an impressive 27-year career as a professional athlete, here's all you need to know. <\/p>\n

Robby Robinson, known as The Black Prince<\/span>, is considered to be one of the all-time greatest bodybuilders. <\/p>\n He was born on May 24, 1946, in Georgia and was raised in Tallahassee, Florida.<\/p>\n Robinson attended Florida A&M University – where he competed in various sports building his love for fitness.<\/p>\n The weightlifter rose to success during the 1970s Golden Era\u00a0in the industry.<\/p>\n The great-grandfather has competed in more than 62 competitions and won 16 of them.<\/p>\n After decades as a successful athlete, he decided to step off the stage for good due an illness. <\/p>\n Although he retired in 2001, Robby continues to keep up a strict workout routine. <\/p>\n The former professional bodybuilder now works as a mentor and coach passing his experience to the upcoming generation of athletes. <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Beyond his competitive achievements, Robinson has made meaningful contributions to the bodybuilding community.<\/p>\n He has published several popular books in the fitness community – including\u00a0The Black Prince<\/span>,\u00a0Built, and\u00a0The Perfect Rep.<\/p>\n The strongman found his passion for bodybuilding<\/span> while stationed in Germany as a member of the US Army<\/span>. <\/p>\n In the 1970s he left the military and embarked on a journey of weightlifting as a profession.\u00a0<\/p>\n After competing in hundreds of amateur competitions<\/span>, he decided to become professional in 1975. <\/p>\n He participated in various contests and was quickly able to scoop top champion titles. <\/p>\n At the time, he secured the Mr. America title, succeeded by the titles of Mr. World and Mr. Universe in 1977.<\/p>\n His popularity in the weightlifting community meant he was able to land roles in popular films. <\/p>\n He featured in the documentary film<\/span> 'Pumping Iron' – which catapulted him to stardom.<\/p>\n The film follows the athlete inside his professional bodybuilding<\/span> world alongside well-known bodybuilders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno.<\/p>\nMost read in Sport<\/h2>\n
