{"id":133199,"date":"2023-11-03T00:16:03","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T00:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluemull.com\/?p=133199"},"modified":"2023-11-03T00:16:03","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T00:16:03","slug":"us-to-push-israel-to-pause-strikes-on-gaza-so-hostages-can-get-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluemull.com\/world-news\/us-to-push-israel-to-pause-strikes-on-gaza-so-hostages-can-get-out\/","title":{"rendered":"US to push Israel to PAUSE strikes on Gaza so hostages can get out"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>US to push Israel to PAUSE strikes on Gaza so hostages can get out and aid and water can go in as more Democrats call for a ceasefire<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The White House said Thursday it is exploring the idea of humanitarian pauses\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It comes as calls grow for an end to hostilities amid mounting crisis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It is almost four weeks since Israel began bombarding the Gaza Strip<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The White House is preparing to push Israel for a lull in its military operations so that civilians can leave Gaza and aid can go in.<\/p>\n<p>Almost four weeks after Israel sealed off the Palestinian enclave in response to Hamas terrorists killing 1400 people, calls are growing for a full ceasefire or at least a &#8216;humanitarian pause&#8217; to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n<p>John Kirby, White House national security spokesman, told reporters Thursday that any such temporary cessation would not affect Israel&#8217;s ability to defend itself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;What we&#8217;re trying to do is explore the idea of as many pauses as might be necessary to continue to get aid out and to continue to work to get people out safely, including hostages,&#8217; he said during the White House daily briefing.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke soon after President Joe Biden announced that dozens of American citizens had been able to flee the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/02\/19\/77336837-12703379-image-a-6_1698953776581.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>National security spokesman John Kirby said Thursday the White House was exploring ways that humanitarian pauses could be used to get aid in and hostages out<\/p>\n<p>&#8217;74 U.S. citizens with dual citizenship have left the Gaza Strip,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Israel faces escalating international criticism for the growing death toll in Gaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, aid agencies say humanitarian assistance being trucked in from Egypt is insufficient.<\/p>\n<p>American officials have rejected calls for a ceasefire, saying it would only let Hamas off the hook, and insisting they would not tell Israel how to wage its war.<\/p>\n<p>But Biden himself added his voice to demands for a &#8216;humanitarian pause&#8217; at an event on Wednesday night when he was heckled by a rabbi.<\/p>\n<p>He was addressing a crowd of supporters in Minneapolis when a woman stood up and shouted: &#8216;Mr. President, if you care about Jewish people, as a rabbi, I need you to call for a ceasefire.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He replied by saying he understood the arguments of a small group of protesters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think we need a pause,\u201d Biden said, before later adding that it would allow time to get captives out of Gaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He has been clear that he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel. A ceasefire goes further than a temporary pause, and is generally seen to the be the first step towards political talks.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, seven U.N. experts said the Palestinian people found themselves at &#8216;grave risk of genocide.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Dick Durbin became the first Democratic senator to say a ceasefire was needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think it is,&#8217; he told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;At least in the context of both sides agreeing, for example, the release of those who have been kidnapped &#8230; the immediate release. That should be the beginning of it.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;An effort should be made to engage in conversation between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
