The doctors of allegedly dead Russian President Vladimir Putin are still trapped inside the despot's huge home – alongside the corpse – five days after they were unable to save his life.

Last week, the Daily Star reported the wild claims that Putin had succumbed to the myriad of apparent health issues he has allegedly been suffering for nearly two years, with a heart attack last week proving the final nail in the coffin. The source of the claims is a Telegram channel called General SVR, which is thought to be led by a Kremlin insider, and it said that Putin had died at his Valdai residence with a “coup” was underway to replace the 71-year-old.

This forced the Kremlin to deny it for the second time in 48 hours, with Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov telling state media RIA Novosti that the report was an “absurd information canard”. However, the same Kremlin insider has now claimed that the doctors are still stuck with the corpse more than five days after the grim news was first reported.

The latest update on the Telegram channel, posted overnight, said: “Doctors are still on the territory of the residence in Valdai. The president's corpse is there. It is noteworthy that the day after Putin’s death, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about peace in Ukraine and offered himself as the main peacemaker.

“Lukashenko knows more than many in the Kremlin, and his sense of smell is unlike many.”

Despite the Kremlin's denial of the death news, the Kremlin gave a huge hint that actually there could be some truth to it. According to the same Russian news outlet that reported the denial comments, Putin was due to attend the opening of a new Russian exhibition and forum at Russian's Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy – also known as the VDNKh.

The event starts on November 4, and was scheduled to be a rare public outing for the dictator – but Peskov has now admitted that Putin won't be there. He said: “He won’t come to the opening, but the fact that one way or another he will look at it, of course, is a must. The exhibition is really worth seeing, there is a gigantic amount of work involved.”

It is expected that the event will host more than 20 million people over the time it is open . . . but Putin doesn't look like he's going to be one of them. The venue is actually based in Moscow, just a 28 minute drive from Putin's Kremlin base.

It is possible that the much-talked-about body double could attend instead, and the Daily Star will be the first to let you know if that does happen.
