ONE person has been hospitalised after a massive multi-vehicle crash involving at least 10 cars on a busy motorway.<\/p>\n
Dramatic footage of the smash has emerged after one car crashed into another, causing a pile-up in Antrim. <\/p>\n

The collision happened on the northbound lane of the motorway on the outer overtaking lane close to the Mallusk junction on Tuesday afternoon. <\/p>\n
Motorists faced long tailbacks after the crash caused one lane of the motorway to be closed off entirely. <\/p>\n
Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes as emergency services attended the scene of the collision. <\/p>\n
Dash-cam footage shows one car crashing into another and shaking as another car hits it from behind. <\/p>\n
At least 10 cars were involved in the pileup, with those at the back appearing to have suffered the most damage. <\/p>\n
The delays led to changes in Translink's bus service from Belfast city centre to Belfast International Airport, with passengers unable to be dropped off at Templepatrick until the return journey.<\/p>\n
The scene was cleared and the lane fully re-opened shortly after 6:30pm. <\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said: "Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to Antrim Area Hospital."<\/p>\n
<\/picture>BANK BOOST <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>JANE MOORE <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>PLUNGE DEATH <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>SCHOL-DED <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the PSNI. <\/p>\n A spokesperson said: "Police received a report of a collision on the northbound side of the M2, near Mallusk junction, just after 4.10pm on Tuesday, 24th January.<\/p>\n "Officers attended along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.<\/p>\n "One lane of the motorway had to be closed until several of the vehicles were recovered. <\/p>\n "Ten vehicles were involved in the collision and a number of people were taken to hospital for treatment for what are thought, at this time, to be minor injuries.<\/p>\n "The lane reopened just before 6.30pm.<\/p>\n "Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, and police would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1071 of 24\/10\/23." <\/p>\n Separately, a woman aged in her 80s, has died after she was struck by a car while out walking in Co Clare.<\/p>\n Gardai rushed to the scene of the smash, which involved a car and a pedestrian, in Knockaveen just before 9am on Sunday. <\/p>\n The pedestrian was fatally injured. Her body has since been removed to the morgue at University Hospital\u00a0Limerick\u00a0where a post mortem examination\u00a0is due to take place.<\/p>\n There were no other injuries reported.<\/p>\n The L8050 road at Knockaveen remains closed and local diversions have been put in place.<\/p>\n A technical examination is being conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators.<\/p>\n A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to provide support to the family of the deceased.<\/p>\n Gardai\u00a0in Scarriff are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.<\/p>\n A spokesperson said: "Any road users who were travelling\u00a0in this area between 8:45am and 9:15am and may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make this available to Gardai.<\/p>\nOne-off payment worth \u00a3185 set for thousands – check if you’re getting one<\/h3>\n
