Jack Carroll, who was the runner-up on Britain's Got Talent during series seven, has moved to acting and secured a role in Coronation Street – set to hit the small screen just days after Christmas.

The comedian, 25, will be playing Bobby, the son of Carla Connor's brother Rob Donovan, who is currently serving life in prison for the murder of Tina McIntyre.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Jack announced: "Delighted and honoured to announce I’ll be joining the British cultural institution that is @coronationstreet as Bobby, Carla’s nephew. Hopefully he brings some laughter in the vein of some of the shows classic comedy characters. Swipe for some exclusive pics from the set."

Following his successful BGT stint, Jack has made appearances on Saturday Night at the London Palladium, Jason Manford’s Funny Old Week and Live At the Apollo – while he has also completed his first national live tour.

Coronation Street won't be his first acting stint either, with the star also having roles on Ministry of Curious Stuff on CBBC, Trollied, Doctors and the role of Pete in the feature film Eaten By Lions.

Jack – who was born 11 weeks prematurely – was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, the result of brain damage that happened either during or shortly after his birth, causing spastic diplegia, a disability affecting both of his legs.

He placed second while appearing on BGT, losing out to shadow theatre troupe Attraction.

The star will be entering the soap opera at a time where drama is aplenty, too, as recent episodes had millions of viewers were shocked when Peter mowed down serial killer Stephen Reid on the cobbles in front of Stephen’s horrified family and Peter’s wife Carla – and Jack's characters auntie.

Peter, played by Chris Gascoyne, found himself arrested on suspicion of murder and hauled in for questioning by DS Swain and her team.

Speaking of the storyline, actor Chris explained: “It was Iain the producer who told me and I was not expecting it that’s for sure. But I was pleased and I was keen to see how the story would pan out.”

“When I read it I loved that it kind of came out of nowhere, hopefully it was not something that the audience was expecting.

“They knew that Peter was angry and was looking for Stephen but although he had tried to beat him up at the flat I don’t think anyone saw that last moment coming until it happened.”
