Good Morning Britain: Tony Blackburn talks about his battle with sepsis<\/h3>\n

Tony Blackburn has detailed being rushed to hospital earlier this year after he collapsed from a serious illness.<\/p>\n

The 80-year-old confessed he didn\u2019t realise how unwell he was until he woke up in hospital and was surrounded by family and friends.<\/p>\n

Appearing on Friday\u2019s instalment of Good Morning Britain, the BBC star spoke to hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard about his sudden illness.<\/p>\n

Tony confessed he had appeared on Ben\u2019s ITV game show Tipping Point two weeks prior to his health taking a turn.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI went home, I collapsed on the floor. I had pneumonia in me, I didn\u2019t realise.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Tony revealed he was rushed to A&E and the doctor told him he\u2019d be in hospital for a while.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI had sepsis, I had poisoned blood and it went into the heart, I think probably, if they hadn\u2019t caught it soon I wouldn\u2019t be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curious, Kate questioned whether or not he felt a bit under the weather before being admitted to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Tony confessed he was on tour at the time and wasn\u2019t feeling too well after one of the shows before collapsing a few days later.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI was doing shows with pneumonia, as it’s very difficult to know if you\u2019ve got it or not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt just a little bit under the weather I suppose a bit, but I was going on doing the shows and enjoying them and that was it. I didn\u2019t realise I was so unwell.\u201d<\/p>\n
