Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are struggling to treat the injured with dwindling medical supplies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.099%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/5858d8c026794e36dbde29802affd6ea9e15ea04\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Smoke rises following an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>AP<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the deputy director of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says 11 staffers have been killed in Gaza since Saturday, up from nine.<\/p>\n<p>Jenifer Austin said in a statement that the dead include five teachers at UN-funded schools, one gynaecologist, one engineer, one psychological counsellor and three support staff.<\/p>\n<p>She said some of the victims were killed in their homes with their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnited Nations Relief and Works Agency mourns this loss and is grieving with our colleagues and the families,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call for the fighting to come to an end to spare more civilian lives lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Israel to form emergency government, war cabinet<\/h2>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sealed an agreement with a major political rival to form an emergency unity government and \u201cwar-management\u201d cabinet, as the country battles its most significant military crisis in decades.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to form a wartime unity government is a significant step for the deeply divided country which was consumed by months of protests over controversial judicial reform before the war broke out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.158%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_1%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/47356a6d6569b78d9ad591141ddb1d9769c380a5\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Israeli soldiers prepare their vehicles in the city of Netivot amid retaliations in the Gaza Strip.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Getty<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>Former defence minister and military chief of staff Benny Gantz released an apparent joint statement with Netanyahu late Wednesday (AEDT) announcing the agreement to form a five-member \u201cwar-management\u201d cabinet, the Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n<p>It will consist of Netanyahu, Gantz, current Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and two other top officials serving as \u201cobserver\u201d members and will not pass any legislation that is not connected to the war in Gaza for as long as it continues.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as Israel prepares for a ground offensive in Gaza that would push casualty numbers high on both sides of its war with Hamas, as the nation\u2019s defence minister declared he had released all restraints on the Israeli military.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full story here. <\/p>\n<h2>This morning\u2019s headlines at a glance<\/h2>\n<p>Thanks for following our live coverage of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m <strong>Broede Carmody <\/strong>and I\u2019ll bring you the latest developments for the first half of the day. <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what you need to know before we get started. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than 1200 Israelis have been killed since Saturday\u2019s unprecedented incursion by Hamas terrorists, according to the Israeli military.
