BRITS are set to be batted by more rain after warnings for flooding and travel chaos.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings as wet and windy conditions threaten to cause transport disruption.

Forecasters have confirmed weather alerts for heavy showers are in force for areas across the country.

The warnings came into effect today from 6am and is set to last until 6pm.

Experts said a "band of rain" will bring showers towards the north and west of Scotland.

The rain will also hit people living in the north-west and surrounding towns.

Meteorologists said Brits are braced for "spray and flooding" on roads probably causing congestion and heavy traffic.

Public transport including bus and train services will also be affected -with journey times taking longer.

Experts have also urged residents to be cautious as they can expect flooding of homes and businesses.

Meteorologist Claire Nasir said: "A cold wind across the north west will deliver showers through Wednesday.

"More cloud further south, but hanging on to some warmth across southern counties yet again."

But those in eastern areas will have less probability to rain and will see brighter skies.

The expert added: "Anywhere from Lancashire, Yorkshire and southwards extending across mid western and northern part of Wales.

"At the same time, across Northern Ireland and even to end the day will see some bright skies across southern counties of Scotland and the far north of England."

People living around London and Southampton can still enjoy the last days of warmth as temperatures are set to reach 21 degrees.

But eastern Scotland will see temperatures plummet to 12 degrees.

"Showers towards the north and west continue on. Even on to this rain band, the air remains relatively warm for this time of year, " the meteorologist said.

The heavy rain will slowly move southwards and it will settle in the Midlands by the end of the day.

Despite having clearer skies by the evening, the day will turn much colder and temperatures are set to dip down.

The following Thursday people will experience a "light breeze" and "some pulses of rain".

Forecast of the following five days shows "chilly and crisp" days – with cloudy skies towards south.

</picture>AIRPORT BLAZE
