With Christmas fast approaching, the Dyson Airwrap will be on top of many a Christmas wishlist – but unfortunately, it comes with a hefty price tag.

Shark’s version is a solid competitor, and it’s just been reduced on Amazon ahead of the Big Deal Days and Black Friday sales.

If you'd been hoping to get your hands on the Shark Flexstyle, there's no better time, as it's currently available on Amazon for just £199 – down from £269.99.

If the Shark product sells out on Amazon, both Argos and the Shark website have the device on offer for £220.

The device – which launched to much fanfare in October last year – comes with attachments to dry, smooth, style and curl with ‘no heat damage’. Like the Dyson, the Shark styler uses the Coanda effect to wrap, curl and set styles.

On the Shark website, the device has more than 200 five star reviews. One shopper said: “I bought this Air Styler to compare with my Dyson Air wrap. I have since sold my Dyson, as I much prefer the Shark.

“I find the large brushes are better for me to blow dry and style. The Air Wrap barrels work great and I especially like the function to twist it back to a hairdryer when needed.”

Another added: “I have really long and thick hair and this dries it really easily. I love using the brush to straighten my hair as it’s so much less damaging than straighteners and I also think the curler is amazing. I use pin clips to keep them in place then I spray with hairspray. I love it. Definitely the same as the Dyson but miles better value for money.”

A third also says the Shark styler is great value after convincing her partner to give her the Christmas gift early. She said: “I'd been wanting the Dyson forever but couldn't bring myself to pay almost £500! When I saw this cheaper alternative receiving such good reviews, I had to try it.

“I have long thick hair so drying my hair usually takes ages but with the Shark it is dry in less than 5 minutes! I love the straightening brush tool, it leaves my hair lovely and straight… All in all I think this is a great hair styling tool and I would 100% pick this over the more expensive alternative.”

Bethan Shufflebotham, a journalist who reviewed the hit product for The Mirror, said she had a preference for the Dyson Airwrap, but the Shark styler was a fabulous option for the price.

She said: "I found it to be heavier than the Dyson and the buttons to be in a slightly awkward position in comparison to the easy-to-use Airwrap.

"The FlexStyle offers three heat and airflow settings, which can be changed with the buttons on the handle of the device. The Shark gadget measures its airflow continuously to ensure consistent temperature to avoid heat damage, too.

"It performed well and definitely does what it says it will, drying hair quickly and curling in a very similar way to the Dyson, though I did find that my curls didn’t last quite as well. The main benefit is of course, the price difference, with the Shark now being less than half the price of the Dyson."
