Rory McIlroy admits Team Europe wanted Ryder Cup revenge over Team USA after they were thrashed at Whistling Straits two years ago.<\/p>\n
The Americans recorded a dominant 19-9 victory on home soil in 2021 but the European team came roaring back this year to win 16.5-11.5 in Rome on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The result means that Team USA\u2019s long wait to win the Ryder Cup on European soil goes on, with their last triumph on this side of the Atlantic coming in 1993.<\/p>\n
Superstar golfer McIlroy, involved in a bust-up with the American team during this year\u2019s tournament, has now shared his thoughts on his team\u2019s victory, admitting that the Europeans were left \u2018hurt\u2019 over the result two years ago.<\/p>\n
\u2018I am so proud to be part of this team,\u2019 the Northern Irishman said. \u2018Incredible day, incredible week with all these guys.<\/p>\n
\u2018We were hurting after Whistling Straits and the players on that team wanted to redeem ourselves and prove to the world that is not who we are. <\/p>\n
\u2018We delivered a great performance. Fresh blood came in and they were embraced. We know the future of this team is Bob MacIntrye, Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai Hojgaard.<\/p>\n
\u2018Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm are leaders of the team. I just hope I can play a few more alongside them.<\/p>\n
\u2018I don\u2019t get emotional about any other event apart from this. This is truly the best event in golf bar none.<\/p>\n
