A GUN cop is facing trial charged with the murder of a dad-to-be shot dead in his car by armed police.<\/p>\n

Chris Kaba was blasted in the head by a single gunshot following a pursuit in Streatham, South London, on September 5 last year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A firearms officer has been charged with the 24-year-old's murder after a homicide probe was launched last year.<\/p>\n

The cop, named only as NX121, has been suspended from duty, with the charge leading to a protest from his Met Police colleagues.<\/p>\n

How Kaba was killed<\/h2>\n

Kaba was driving<\/span> a dark Audi car when he was followed by an unmarked police car with no lights or sirens.<\/p>\n

The rapper turned into Kirkstall Gardens and collided with a marked police car.<\/p>\n

The officer fired one shot that passed through the windscreen of the Audi he was driving and hit him in the head.<\/p>\n

His vehicle had been stopped following the activation of an automatic number plate recognition camera.<\/p>\n

It later emerged the Audi Kaba was driving, which did not belong to him, had been linked by police to a firearms incident the previous day.<\/p>\n

Kaba died in the early hours of the morning following the shooting.<\/p>\n

Kaba unarmed at the time of the killing<\/h2>\n

The dad-to-be was unarmed when he was shot dead, the police watchdog previously revealed.<\/p>\n

No firearms were found during a search of the Audi or at the scene.<\/p>\n

The IOPC said at the time: A detailed search of the scene and surrounding area was completed last night. <\/p>\n

"No non-police issue firearm has been recovered from the vehicle or the scene."<\/p>\n

Officer charged with murder<\/h2>\n

The firearms cop was charged with murder last week – more than one year after the shooting.<\/p>\n

His identity has not been revealed for \u201clegal reasons\u201d.<\/p>\n

The CPS authorised the charge of murder following an investigation by the\u00a0Independent Office for Police Conduct.<\/p>\n

The officer, known only as NX121, was granted bail on the conditions that he lives at a named address, surrenders his passport and does not apply for international travel documents.<\/p>\n

A plea hearing has been listed on December 1, with a provisional trial date set for September 9.<\/p>\n

Met cops hand guns in<\/h2>\n

Firearms officers have been handing their weapons in as a protest against the murder charge.<\/p>\n

Officers last week stood down from firearms duties at the treatment of their colleague.<\/p>\n

The widespread action has left the capital with a \u201cskeleton\u201d armed police capability.<\/p>\n

Armed officers from other forces are now being drafted in to help the police. <\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defence has also agreed to a request to provide the Met with counterterrorism support should it be needed.<\/p>\n

Home Secretary to launch probe <\/h2>\n

Suella Braverman has ordered a review<\/span> or armed policing following the protest by Met officers,<\/p>\n

She said firearms officers have to make \u201csplit-second decisions\u201d and \u201cmustn\u2019t fear ending up in the dock for carrying out their duties\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Home Secretary added: \u201cWe depend on our brave firearms officers to protect us from the most dangerous and violent in society.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the interest of public safety they have to make split-second decisions under extraordinary pressures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey mustn\u2019t fear ending up in the dock for carrying out their duties. Officers risking their lives to keep us safe have my full backing and I will do everything in my power<\/span> to support them.<\/p>\n
