A TINY island in the Caribbean has remained off the beaten track for tourists – unless you're a celebrity.

While many of the islands are popular with Brits, such as Jamaica and Barbados, there is one that is yet to see the same boom in holidaymakers.

Nevis, one of the smaller islands, has just 12,000 people living on the island, which is only 36 square miles in size.

Not only are there no international flights there, but there are no cruise ships either, and barely any resort hotels.

So don't expect to see many Brits there, as there are no direct UK flights.

Instead, you will have to fly to St Kitts, which has a stopover of Antigua, followed by a boat ride.

Yvette Thomas-Henry, who runs a resort on the island, said Nevis was an "open secret".

Despite this, it's popular with famous A-Listers including Britney Spears, who visited with her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Jay Z and Oprah Winfrey.

Back in the 1990s, Princess Diana also visited the island with Prince William and Prince Harry.

One of the only resort hotels is the Four Seasons, with the rest beign smaller, local-run hotels.

But the lack of tourism also means you can expect beautiful stretches of unspoilt sand.

One of the most famous is Lover's Beach, which visitors have said has "stunning, white sands as far as the eye can see".

And many visit to climb the active volcano Nevis Peak, with heights of 3,232ft.

Make sure to plan ahead though – many shops close over the weekend.

It's also known for being the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, with museums celebrating his life and legacy that resulted in the famous Broadway show.

Luxury travel expert Louisa Gehring, told CN Traveler that Nevis is the "Goldilocks of the Caribbean".

She explained: "[Nevis is] easy to get to but still enough of a trip to keep the nonstop-flight-only masses away.

"It has beautiful beaches, while offering a safe environment to eat in off-property restaurants and explore the island outside of the resort.

"It feels off the beaten path, yet is home to true luxury resorts and charming hotels."

In the meantime, we've found the best Caribbean cruises which have stopovers at stunning beaches.

And we've found a British island that looks like the Caribbean and day trips are just £19

Most read in News Travel
