Unimpressed viewers quickly took to Twitter with one writing: ‘Didn’t need this twist’.

Unimpressed: My Mum, Your Dad viewers slammed the show’s ‘stupid Big Brother style’ twist on Monday branding it ‘insulting’ to the participants – after originally praising the new series’ ‘heartwarming format’

Shock: However host Davina McCall, 55, who fronted gathered the middle-aged contestant’s kids, who had nominated them for the show, into a secret bunker

While a second wrote: ‘Glamorous parents now subject to a Big brother twist by producers and kids. Opportunity missed by ITV. AGAIN’.

Another said: ‘Awful! So insulting to the parents, that ITV don’t think people in their 40s & 50s can meet and date without the input from their kids. Billed as Love Island for older people – It isn’t!!’.

A third commented: ‘Wish the kids were not involved …leave it to the parents’.

And: ‘They didn’t need to get the kids involved. Throw them in the house, give them plenty of booze and leave them to it. ITV always ruining things with these stupid twists’.

It comes after viewers were left loving the first episode as they told how they were ‘already obsessed’ with the series and its refreshing format.

One said: ‘ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad! Loving it already. Wish my kids were old enough to apply for me. #singleparent #MyMumYourDad #love #dating.’

Another wrote: ‘I can already tell I’m going to be hooked to ‘My mum, your dad on ITV. I just love, Love.’

A third said: ‘My Mum Your Dad (ITV1 at 9pm) is a great format, and far more interesting than you might think. Its heart is in the right place and it shakes up the dating formats in a good way.’

What? She revealed how the youngsters would be able to covertly watch every aspect of their parent’s dates and could even decide if their elders stayed together or split

Throwback: Davina originally hosted Big Brother 2000-2010 (pictured in 2002)

Not happy: Unimpressed viewers quickly took to Twitter with one writing: ‘Didn’t need this twist’

Another enthused: ‘Already obsessed with my mum, your dad!’

Dubbed the ‘Middle-Aged Love Island’, parents will undergo dates and bonding workshops while unknowing being watched by their children from an out-house with ‘pillows over their faces’ in embarrassment.

The singletons will believe they are being matched up by relationship experts, when in reality, Davina has shocked their children by roping them in to help with the dates.

On the show there was an early test for business owner Paul, who found himself in an awkward spot after forgetting the female contestants’ names – despite being tasked with taking one on a date.

Respective children Mazey and Taiya had their heads in their hands as they watched from the surveillance room as the hapless 51-year old prepared to take her out for the first time.

Meanwhile Monique had her own concerns, with the 50-year old admitting she’d completely forgotten how to kiss.

Here we go! The search for mid-life love began on Monday evening as new dating show My Mum, Your Dad launched on ITV1

Show: With the help of their occasionally despairing children, nine single parents are hoping to find their soulmate within the luxury grounds of a West Sussex retreat (Roger and Caroline seen)

‘I might have to practice kissing on the back of my hand,’ she said, prompting exasperation from her student daughter.

Worse was come for a visibly nervous Paul when Monique asked him what he wouldn’t accept in a partner – a question he admitted he can’t answer.

Elsewhere postman Roger had his eye on one particular over-50 – and it wasn’t one of the contestants.

‘It’s been 37-years since I’ve been on a date or head to impress someone,’ he admitted. ‘Is Davina off the table?’

The ITV2 series follows single parents who have been nominated by their grown-up kids for a second chance at love.

Dubbed the ‘Middle-Aged Love Island’, parents will undergo dates and bonding workshops while unknowing being watched by their children from an out-house with ‘pillows over their faces’ in embarrassment.

Tough start: On the show there was an early test for business owner Paul, who found himself in an awkward spot after forgetting the female contestants’ names – despite being tasked with taking one on a date

Worried: Meanwhile Monique had her own concerns, with the 50-year old admitting she’s completely forgotten how to kiss

The singletons will believe they are being matched up by relationship experts, when in reality, Davina has shocked their children by roping them in to help with the dates.

Davina admitted there were moments in filming where the adult kids were hiding behind cushions from embarrassment, but insisted there will be no sex scenes shown on TV.

She explained: ‘There are no cameras in the bedrooms, I think it’s important to point out that it is different in that way.

‘For me personally speaking, I’d rather watch the hint of love, the hint of something coming, should I shouldn’t I, a moment of tenderness – that’s so exciting – but jumping into bed with each other sh**ging, once you’ve seen it once, it doesn’t mean anything.

‘This really f**king means something, when you see people falling, you know this is serious. That’s so lovely. But yes, there are moments where the kids have got cushions over their faces. We’d never really thought about us, or about ourselves in that situation. So it was just a way of saying to him, stop worrying about us. If he wasn’t ready, that was also totally fine. It wasn’t an ultimatum.
