When Freddie Mercury died in 1991, he left a vast chunk of his estate to his former lover Mary Austin.<\/p>\n
This included his Garden Lodge Kensington home and its contents from furniture and art to his personal clothes and possessions.<\/p>\n
Now she\u2019s decided to sell off the vast majority in an epic Sotheby\u2019s series of auctions.<\/p>\n
For the last month, the contents of the Queen singer\u2019s London mansion have been on display to the public with almost 140,000 members of the public visiting the exhibition at Sotheby\u2019s for free.<\/p>\n
Last night the first auction took place there with 100 per cent of lots sold and sales totalling \u00a312.2 million.<\/p>\n

This was a new record for a composer\u2019s piano.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, his handwritten Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics \u2013 a piece of paper with \u201cMongolian Rhapsody\u201d crossed out \u2013 were sold for a whopping \u00a31.379 million.<\/p>\n Another big seller was the Queen star\u2019s costume crown and cloak going for \u00a3635,000, which was over 10 times the original estimate of \u00a360,000-80,000.<\/p>\n Another surprise highlight was a silver snake bangle worn in the Bohemian Rhapsody music video by Freddie.
