- Couple says they thought the Gossip Girl star’s ‘leave him’ comment was funny
The Wrexham fan whose girlfriend was jokingly told by Blake Lively to dump him in a video insists that they are still together despite the actress’s cheeky quip, MailOnline can exclusively reveal.
Sam Neale asked the Gossip Girl star to record a message for his girlfriend Stephanie Cleaver at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday.
But in a hilarious video moment that went viral, Ms Lively said: ‘Hey Stephanie! You should leave him’ – before covering her hand over her mouth and leaving those around him in fits of giggles.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Mr Neale, 21, has relived the moment he spoke to the star – and candidly admitted that he did not ‘really know’ who Ms Lively was before Sunday. He also revealed that his first date with Stephanie, 19, was at a football match with his grandfather.
‘I wasn’t sure when I’d get another chance to speak to Blake again, so I sprinted to the other end of the stadium where Blake was meeting fans,’ Mr Neale told MailOnline today.

‘I was on the other end of the stand and as soon as I saw her coming down I thought ”I’m at least going to try and get a video”.
‘There were hundreds there waiting for a photo. Eventually I was near enough to get a chance to speak to her. And when she said it, I couldn’t believe it… I thought it was hilarious.’
Mr Neale asked Ms Lively for a message for Miss Cleaver, his girlfriend of 18 months, who is training to become a primary school teacher.
Miss Cleaver, who is from Wolverhampton and originally supported the Wolves, says she has been converted to Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham by her boyfriend’s love for the club.
‘I love the shirts, everything,’ she said. ‘I absolutely love Gossip Girl. I have watched it so many times, I just love Blake Lively.
‘I was so jealous Sam had gone to the match without me because I was working and I was just crying when I got the video. I love her. She is my favourite person in the world.’

Recently, Mr Neale got a Wrexham tattoo on his leg with Miss Cleaver giving it the thumbs up. It shows a rip with the Wrexham badge coming out of it.
Ever the true romantic, the football fan revealed that the couple’s first date in December 2021 was an away match against Dover – with his grandfather tagging along.
Recalling their first date, he said: ‘It was a six-and-a-half hour trip down to the south coast and back again, with my grandad. We won 1-0 so it was worth it. I knew after that, she was a keeper! We’ve been to about five games together in total. Stockport. Bromley…’.
And asked what he feels Mr Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney have done for Wrexham since buying the side in late 2020, Mr Neale says he couldn’t be happier.
Mr Neale added that he hadn’t really known much about Ms Lively before her link to his football club. Ms Cleaver, however, says: ‘I absolutely love Gossip Girl. I have watched it so many times, I just love Blake Lively’
‘Me and my granddad have been going for years,’ he said.
‘We were there with 3,000-strong crowds. It was tough times before they came along because it felt like ”When are we going to get our lucky break?”
‘It was hard being a Wrexham fan, people would say ”Oh why do you support Wrexham?” type thing. We always knew we had this big potential, you know, and there were times when we’d get really big crowds and we thought ”Oh it’s going really well”.’
Mr Neale added that he hadn’t really known much about Ms Lively before her link to his football club.
‘I didn’t really know who she was,’ he admitted.
‘People have been brought up on different things and I haven’t been brought up with Gossip Girl. I’m more Deadpool and stuff like that.
‘Blake was so lovely with the fans. Afterwards she was signing stuff and she looked at me and said ‘I was joking.’ So that was nice.’
