  • The fire service has since confirmed that no one had been injured in the blaze

Nearly 900 vehicles have been destroyed in a devastating fire that ripped through a second-hand car lot. 

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Motorhog site in Carcroft, Doncaster, shortly before 10pm on Friday.  

Astonishing pictures show the aftermath of the blaze with hundreds of cars being reduced to charred remains.

More than 40 firefighters, along with a police drone unit, worked through the night in an attempt to control the flames.

By 8am on Saturday three fire crews still remained at the site before the fire was fully extinguished by 1pm. 

It was initially believed 30 cars had been affected but by Saturday morning the figure was revised to 200 and then later to 900.

The fire service confirmed that no one was injured. It is not yet known how the fire started.

South Yorkshire Fire service said: ‘A fire investigation into how the blaze started is now under way.

‘It is thought that around 900 cars have been damaged in the blaze, however, there have been no injuries.’
