Man arrested as search continues for missing Brunswick woman

A man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Brunswick woman who has been missing for almost a week.

Maryam Hamka, a 36-year-old Brunswick woman, was last seen leaving the Albert Street Woolworths in Brunswick on April 10 at 5.30pm.

She was wearing a black dress when she was last seen and had told family she was intending to visit a friend in Brighton, according to police. Ms Hamka was reported missing on Thursday.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Well Street, Brighton on Friday and arrested a 45-year-old man.

The Brighton man is now assisting police with their enquiries.

Ms Hamka is around 165cm tall, with a thin build and long black hair, brown eyes and an olive complexion.
