Italy’s coronavirus cases ‘to peak in 10 days’ as nation’s death toll rises by 756 and Spain’s soars by 838 – The Sun

EXPERTS in Italy, in its third week of coronavirus lockdown, expect the illness to peak in ten days.

There were 756 deaths in the nation yesterday, taking its grim death toll to 10,779.

Italy – which has been in a lockdown for almost three weeks – said the number of new cases appeared to be stabilising and officials expected the illness to peak in the next ten days.

Officials there expect the ''stay at home decree'' to enforced for at least another two weeks beyond its original April 3 deadline.

Spain saw it's largest daily coronavirus death toll on Sunday with 838 new victims.

Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez said he was tightening the lockdown in the country with all non-essential workers ordered to stay at home for two weeks.

Mr Sanchez said:''This measure will reduce people’s movement even further, but it will reduce the risk of contagion and allow us to unblock our intensive care units.''

As the figures were announced it also emerged that over the border in Portugal, a 14-year-old boy thought to be the youngest victim in Europe, had also died.

Local reports said he suffered from psoriasis, a skin disorder that can affect the immune system.

His death follows that of a 16-year-old schoolgirl who died in France at a Paris hospital last week.
