Kevin Costner is officially working on a new project as the fifth season of his hit show, Yellowstone, faces further delays.

Kevin is set to team up with his former co-star, Morgan Freeman, to produce a six-part civil war drama called The Gray House after an interim agreement was confirmed with The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

SAG-AFTRA, which consists of approximately 160,000 members including actors and writers, has been on strike since July 14.

But the union has made several allowances for projects that are willing to adhere to their terms.

Kevin revealed when the project was first announced, “The Gray House is an untold true story of three amazingly brave abolitionist heroes of the Civil War, who just happened to be women.”

He continued: “Having a passion for history, it’s always personally fulfilling to share richly layered stories about America’s unsung heroes.

“I’m delighted to join forces with my friends Leslie Greif and Morgan Freeman with whom I’ve had great success to produce this important, epic saga.”

It is not yet known if Kevin or Morgan will also star in the new series but the TV show joins over 60 other projects which have provisional agreements.

Some of the most high-profile include Apple TV+’s Tehran, The Watchers, I Dream Of Unicorns and Mother Mary.

This announcement followed news that the fifth season of Kevin’s hit show, Yellowstone, has been delayed again.

Initially the delays were attributed to the actor’s much publicised contract dispute, after Kevin wanted to limit his filming commitments so that he could focus on starring in and producing a new four-part Civil War series, Horizon: An American Saga.

Then Paramount officially declared that Yellowstone would be ending with season five. However, there have been no signs that the remainder of this final season will be hitting screens anytime soon.

The network originally promised that the show would return in November of 2023 but this date looks increasingly unlikely, especially when the current writers and actors strikes are taken into consideration.

As to how much of a presence Kevin’s character, John Dutton, will have in the final set of episodes, that is still to be seen.

Yellowstone is available to stream on Paramount Plus in the UK.
