Mare of Easttown on HBO brings together a high-profile cast led by Kate Winslet. The show just aired its first episode this week, introducing viewers to the crime drama mini-series. But where was the show filmed and where is it set?

The series synopsis reads: “As her life crumbles around her, a small-town Pennsylvania detective Mare Sheehan (played by Winslet) investigates a local murder.

“The series explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present.”

Mare of Easttown was created by Brad Ingelsby, best known for writing such films as Finding the Way Back, Run All Night and Out of the Furnace.

Craig Zobel is in the director’s chair, best known for The Hunt, One Dollar and Compliance.

The show brings together a cast of big-name actors led by Winslet (known for Titanic) as Mare Sheehan.

Other cast members include Wandavision’s Evans Peters as Detective Colin Zabel and Alien: Covenant star Guy Pearce as Richard Ryan.

Where is Mare of Easttown set?

The series gets its name from its setting – Easttown, in Pennsylvania.

It’s located in Chester County of Pennsylvania state, just outside of Philadelphia.

In reality, the town has a population of just over 10,000 people, according to the latest census taken in 2010.

The real-life town is actually the place series creator Brad Ingelsby was born.

Where was Mare of Easttown filmed?

The series was shot on location, with most of the filming taking place in and around Chester County.

Bridge Street in Phoenixville was the primary location for the shoot, with the street being partially closed for it.

Filming for the show started back in Autumn of 2019 stretching through to March of 2020.

At this point, filming had to stop due to the coronavirus pandemic, leading to delays for the show.

The shoot didn’t resume until September 2020, wrapping shortly after in the year.

Kate Winslet wanted her character to be as authentic as possible, she put on the local Delco accent which the region of Delaware is known for.

The show will consist of seven episodes with the story concluding there as HBO has set this to run as a mini-series.

Mare of Easttown is available to watch on HBO or NOW in the UK.
