Season 11 of The Walking Dead will be the flagship zombie series’ final outing, but thankfully not the last fans have seen of Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) and many other iconic characters. Although he’ll be heading up his own spin-off with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) on AMC soon, the actor has taken to Instagram to say goodbye to the mainline series as the final days of filming come to an end.
Norman has capped off 12 years as part of the main cast of The Walking Dead with an emotional social media post.
The actor marked the occasion by posting a video of himself and co-star Melissa singing a song about their characters from an earlier instalment of the popular horror series.
He also included a snap of himself and Michael Rooker, who portrayed Daryl’s brother Merle in the first three seasons.
In the caption, he wrote: “That’s a wrap. 11 seasons 12 years.”
“Never been so beat up and it was an absolute blast.”
The long-running Walking Dead star injured himself earlier this month and subsequently had to pull out of a fan event with other cast members.
He suffered a concussion on the set of the series, pushing back the filming for season 11 by a few days.
Thankfully, he has made a full recovery and the shooting schedule was able to get back on track.
Filming for the series has now come to an end, and the last episodes are hoped to surface by the end of the year.
Norman added: “Thank you to all of you that took this ride with us and what a ride it was.”
His message was met with a wave of support from his co-stars and showrunner Angela Kang, who replied with several love heart emojis.
Princess star Paola Lázaro replied: “Hell yeah! Thank you for all you gave to the audience and to us.”

Former Saviour Steven Ogg said: “Congratulations and much love to you and the entire TWD family!!”
And Leah star Lynn Collins replied with several applaud emojis and the hashtag “#icon”.
“Let us all take notes,” she added. “Congratulations my friend.”
Norman’s famous partner, German actress Diane Kruger, also took to the comments to honour his achievements.
She wrote: “Congratulations my love. What an accomplishment for all of you.
“All of you created iconic characters that will last forever. I’m so proud of you.”
The third chunk of episodes in The Walking Dead’s final season is expected to begin towards the second half of 2022.
However, the franchise is by no means coming to an end, as there are already spin-offs in the works for Daryl and Carol, and another centred on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sunday, April 3 on AMC in the USA and the following Monday on Disney+ in the UK.
