Zip was one of six characters who performed during the debut of The Masked Dancer seemed to go down a hit with viewers at home. The eccentric contestant bonded around the stage in their gold suit that was completed with oversized sunglasses where the celebrity’s eyes would be. However, before showcasing their routine, a clue packaged was played to give fans of the ITV show some teasers as to who Zip could be and it seems they could have a connection to The Masked Singer’s Robin.
Earlier this year, former JLS star Aston Merrygold, 33, made it all the way to the final of the quirky singing competition but was beaten to the crown by Sausage.
He was the first member of the boyband to take part in any format of the franchise but Marvin Humes, 36, could now be following in his footsteps.
The interest in the latter being Zip came as the clue package was played in which the contestant said: “Who is Zip? It’s me, silly.
“The life and soul of the party and I love disco,” they added and whilst bouncing around the dance floor, they added: “Hey, DJ, play another song.
“I’m in the zone with a shimmy to the left and a twist to the right. You can count on me to give this competition everything I’ve got.”
The contestant continued: “I’m here to paint the town red, yellow, green and blue. But don’t start thinking I’m an open and shut case.
“I may be letting myself go a little on the dance floor but who is behind the mack?” Zip asked those watching at home.
Taking to Twitter, viewers seemed to hone in on the clue about the colours, which used to be associated with the boyband JLS.
One fan wrote: “Marvin Humes…Red, Green, Yellow and Blue (their jumpers) and there was a DJ clue. Marvin is a DJ.”
I’d say Zip is Marvin Humes

Another added: “Is Zip one of JLS.. paint the town red, yellow, green and blue? #MaskedDancerUK,” with a third sharing: “I’d say Zip is Marvin Humes! #MaskedDancerUK.”
“JLS colours? #zip #MaskedDancerUK,” a fourth asked with a fifth stating: “Red, yellow, green, blue clue got me thinking of JLS #MaskedDancerUK.”
“Ok…Zip is Marvin Humes! The red, blue, yellow and green comment earlier #MaskedDancerUK,” a sixth viewer declared.
Out of the four members of JLS, Aston has already featured on The Masked Singer and Marvin is the only one to have gone on to become a radio DJ.
Could it be he is really the celebrity hiding inside the quirky costume?
By the end of the first episode, it was Viper who had their identity exposed after they failed to win over the virtual audience and the judges.
It was revealed the celebrity hiding inside the costume was Diversity star and former I’m A Celebrity campmate, Jordan Banjo, 28.
The dancer said he was encouraged to take part because over the last year with the national lockdowns, people hadn’t been able to have “fun”.
Asked why this was the edition of the franchise he wanted to take part in, the presenter said: “I had watched parts of Masked Singer but, as a dancer, this was better for me.”
Speaking of the judging panel who failed to save him, Jordan said: “I love the panel, I love that it’s not treated like some super serious dance show but as a fun, feel-good guessing game.”
Talking about how he felt to leave the competition so early on, he added: “Of course, part of me was gutted but also relieved!”
When asked to sum up his experience in three words, the reality television star commented: “Absolutely flipping crazy!”
The series will continue for the rest of the week, with the final set to take place later next week when the final contestant will be unmasked.
The Masked Dancer continues Sunday at 7:30pm on ITV.
