A Coronation Street favourite is dealt a terrifying health scare in this week’s episodes of the long-time soap.

Gail Rodwell, played by Helen Worth, is seen suffering what appears to be a heart attack following a new squabble with her children.

After a clash with Nick (Ben Price), David (Jack P Shepherd), and Sarah (Tina O’Brien), Gail is left clutching her chest as it starts feeling tight.

Rather than allow her kids take her to hospital, she instead declares she wants her mum Audrey (Sue Nicholls) to accompany her to A&E.

In a heartbreaking moment, she tells son David “Just call my mother. Please, I want my mam.”

While thankfully she is later OK, Gail believes that the minor heart attack is a sign that it’s time for her to leave the cobbles behind her.

Gail has been a mainstay on Coronation Street for 47 years, first appearing in 1974 and since having five husbands, three children, and several grandkids.

She’s also had her fair share of brushes with death – though with her health failing her and her children constantly arguing, it seems like she’s finally had enough.

“I thought when I bought the house back it might be different, that I’d be queen of my own castle again,” she tells her worried mum.

“Nothing’s going to change, is it? Because I do everything for my kids. And what do they do for me in return, eh?

“I don’t want to be just a mum anymore. It seems like I’ve spent my whole life being a mother, totally and completely wrapped up in my kids.”

“Is that the only thing that defines me?” she questioned, saying she was done feeling like a ‘referee’ in her grown childrens’ lives.

With all three of her kids now fully grown adults with their own lives to lead, is it time for Gail to set off on her own and find a new life?

And after nearly 50 years, will she actually be able to go through with it?

The scenes are now available to watch on ITV Hub, with the soap temporarily taking a ‘box set’ format due to the Euro 2020 matches disrupting its typical schedule.

The episodes will be available throughout the week on ITV, but in a different time slot to normal.

These are also subject to change due to the state of play in the football games.
