Spoilers: Peter brutally attacked in bloody scenes in Corrie

Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) is about to hit rock bottom in Coronation Street in a huge way and it puts his relationship with Carla Connor (Alison King) at risk – as well as his life when he gets into an altercation and is beaten black and blue.

Peter tries to reassure Simon (Simon Gregson) over the Oliver situation but when Carla has a conflicting view, Peter and Carla become embroiled in a nasty argument and Carla is left stung.

Later, a thug approaches Peter in his cab. When Peter refuses to give him a lift, the thug threatens to beat him up.

Covered in blood, Peter leans against a wall, the thug having stolen his taxi. Barry, a passerby, calls the police and offers Peter his hip flask full of whisky.

Peter desperately tries but fails to fight his demons, and swigs from the hip flask. When Peter returns home, Carla’s horrified about the attack and tells him how much she loves him.

Peter covers up his drinking but his demons have been awoken – and when Barry comes to check on Peter, Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) realises that he has fallen off the wagon and panics.

Abi confronts Peter in the Rovers’ back yard and reveals how Barry let slip that he’s been on the whisky.  Peter assures her it was a one off and refuses to discuss it any further.

As Carla heads for the Rovers, Abi warns her that Peter needs help. Carla drags the truth out of Peter, she begs him to get some help but he refuses and instead turns the tables on her.  Devastated, Carla storms out.

Johnny and Jenny find Peter in the bar, barely conscious. As Sarah heads towards the factory, she’s concerned to see Johnny and Jenny taking a drunk Peter to hospital.

Sarah heads to the factory and reveals to Carla what she saw, Peter wakes to find Carla at his hospital bedside. Peter tells her he loves her with all his heart and doesn’t deserve her, how will Carla react?

Is this the end?
