Spoilers: Explosive 60th anniversary story revealed for David in Corrie

David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) has had his fair share of heartache in Coronation Street, but there’s seemingly more ahead given the whole sinkhole in the back of his garden — a story that will ultimately lead towards the 60th anniversary.

Viewers saw a giant sinkhole appear in the back garden of the Platt household in Friday’s episode (September 11) — much to David’s dismay.

Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) offered to put the family up at one of his pricey hotels while the hole is dealt with, but little does David know that the hotelier is plotting against him.

Yes, Ray made the sinkhole happen, and he’s out to acquire as many properties in Weatherfield as he can get — a story that will seemingly play a big part in the soap’s approaching 60th anniversary.

As a result, David — and the entire Platt clan — will feature, which is perhaps an inevitability given how iconic and important the family are to the soap’s heritage.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about being involved in the upcoming milestone, actor Jack P Shepherd told us: ‘It’s always great for me to be involved with the big stories, and especially the anniversary stories. The live episodes that we’ve done.

‘I think David is 30 this Christmas, so that’s another anniversary for him!

‘To be a part of the 60th is great. Whatever they’ve got in store, I don’t know what they’ve got in store actually, I think it’s a combination of storylines from what I’ve been told.’

But the question is: will David perhaps retaliate against Ray if his actions come to light?

Jack said: ‘I don’t know, we’ll have to see what happens with Ray! I’ve had a few scenes with Mark [Frost]. Quite a few actually. I really like the guy! he’s really, really, really nice. I hope he sticks around for a bit.’

Coronation Street continues Monday September 14 at 7:30pm on ITV.
